POLL: What Hit Musical of Old Should Next be Revived on Broadway? — Page 2

I'm surprised "My Fair Lady" is not one of those choices. I would love for Laura Michelle Kelly to play Eliza like she did in the West End revival.

Can we also just address the question: what constitutes a hit musical OF OLD?
Somehow a show that premiered within the last 25 years (no matter how brilliant) doesn't really qualify, does it? I'm talking to you, CITY OF ANGELS, CRAZY FOR YOU, and KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN.
Just a question of nomenclature, not criticism of those beloved shows.

FOLLIES!! Oh Wait....
Actually I'd like to see one of the lesser known or less successful Ethel Merman vehicles revived. Like Subaru was a lady, panama Hattie, or Call Me Madam.

CARNIVAL totally gets my vote. 50 years since its original production, it is still a beautiful show, great for adults and families and certain to be successful again, given the right production. An amazing workshop at Roundabout some years ago, with Sarah Uriarte Berry as Lili and Howard McGillin as Paul, should have led to a full production. Great score by Bob Merrill, who is sadly forgotten today, although his work in the 50s and 60s (Take Me Along and New Girl in Town) was terrific.

Can we get a stage adaptation of Anchors Aweigh instead?

I'm one of those people who most often prefers a new director's and/or choreographer's take on a musical being revived. Only a few times do I wish the original staging to be replicated. Such is the case with Tommy Tune's original and amazing staging of A DAY IN HOLLYWOOD/A NIGHT IN THE UKRAINE. I'd love for younger audiences to see that show as it was originally done on Broadway (Tune greatly re-conceived it from the first UK mounting).

I don't think shows that opened in my lifetime should be considered "of old". I was expecting more of a "Golden Age" list

I think a revival of Crazy For You! directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall would be Magical with Ashley Brown as Polly.

Ever since the Kennedy Center Honors for Chita I've wanted to hear Donna Murphy sing more of Kiss of the Spider Woman's score.
But couldn't imagine that actually being too interesting in practice and can't imagine Murphy taking any revival other than Mame. Still really interested in the music though and I think that Bebe Neuwirth would be fabulous as Aurora.

CRAZY FOR YOU!! HANDS DOWN!! With Stroman!
Hands down the best choice of all!
And Catalano's idea of Once Upon a Matress is about as good of an idea as adding the words "Turn Off the Dark" was to Spiderman

"Barnum" with Raul Esparza as P.T.
"Brigadoon": Since Broadway's bringing back the classics, why not bring back one that brings us back to happy memories of an old classic love story with a fantasy twist?

I agree with L'il Abner. Has it EVER been revived? I watch the movie every so often and it's hilarious.

I was lucky to attend that gorgeous Broadway production of BRIGADOON in 1980-81 several times. All-around great show, rather ahead of its time. It starred the wonderful Meg Bussert, and Laura Benanti's father, Martin Vidnovic -- both musical, romantic leading actors at the top of their game in those days.

I may be late to the party on this, but I had no idea Benanti was Martin Vidnovic's daughter. Very cool.

I also think Brigadoon should be added to the list.

I think Lil' Abner is close to unrevivable--as was mentioned, nobody even knows the comic strip anymore...

I want a lavish production of Kismet for Norm Lewis and Jane Krakowski!
