Broadway, simply put, is a money making machine. It stopped being Art almost shortly after it was invented. So the musicals that made money in the past don't work so much today, because different things make money today. If you revived an old musical, it wouldn't be about the musical, but about the transplanted movie star playing the lead, the director's "twist," and other variables that have nothing to do with why the musical was written.
I want to see THE ROAR OF THE GREASPAINT-THE SMELL OF THE CROWD...with JOHN LIFHGOW doing the CYRIL RITCHARD part and am open to suggestions for the ANTHONY NEWLEY part...this show deserves more viewings and has a GREAT score...
