Posted: 3/31/05 at 8:08pmI can't believe they're including "No One Would Listen". I thought for sure they were gonna keep that one out of reach... it'll be cool to see the scene and hear the lyrics for it.

SYNOPSIS
"The Phantom of the Opera" tells the story of a disfigured musical genius who haunts the catacombs beneath the Paris Opera House, waging a reign of terror over its occupants. When he falls fatally in love with the lovely young soprano Christine, the Phantom devotes himself to creating a new star for the Opera. But she has another admirer, her childhood sweetheart Raoul, the dashing young Vicompte de Chagny. The Phantom's fury at her betrayal becomes murderous. He hatches a plot to win her back and in a dramatic and tense climax Christine is forced to choose between Raoul and the Phantom -- her Angel of Music.
The stage musical sensation is magically and hauntingly transformed by director Joel Schumacher into a lavish film production, sweeping audiences to new heights of sight and sound grandeur. Gerard Butler (as the Phantom), Emmy Rossum (The National Board of Review Breakthrough Performance Award winner as Christine) and Patrick Wilson (as Raoul) play out the fateful love triangle that unfurls in splendor, suspense -- and in the music of the night.

FYI to all BroadwayWorld members I am now a moderator at Really Useful's new message board. I am saying this as when I was the WB moderator for the Phantom film, I got classified as a shill by some people on another board. I do not work for RUG, I only moderate their message board as I did for WB.
Yours,
Carolyn

Posted: 3/31/05 at 10:41pmYaaay for lots and lots of Phantom features. Too bad it only specifically mentions Emmy's screen test, I would have loved to see Gerry's, maybe I still will. The closer it gets, and the more I hear about it, the more I can't wait!

My family found the film to be an entrancing masterpiece. I think it is one of the ten best films ever made and certainly in my top five all time favorites. What an incredible film this is. We are anxiously awaiting the dvd in my household.
I feel sad for the misguided folks who have not seen the film. Perhaps they have never seen GONE WITH THE WIND, E.T. or ALL ABOUT EVE either. A shame when some folks miss out on what life has to offer us.

I didn't like the film, but I'll probably end up buying the DVD anyway. Oh well. Childhood interests never die, they just fade within you...
...and then resurface at inopportune times!

Posted: 4/2/05 at 5:58pmThe film was okay. I've never been a fan of the show itself. It was gorgeous to look at and Emmy Rossum has a nice voice, but I won't be knocking down doors to see it again.

I have not yet seen the film so I've decided to order the DVD. I'm not a fan of this Musical on stage so I do hope that the film will have something better/different to offer in the way that it has been put together.

Posted: 4/11/05 at 11:17pmDon't worry, renthead. There's going to be substantial footage from the London production that was filmed recently with John Owen Jones in the doc about the stage show. Also, there's going to be footage from the original Sydmonton preview and the original london cast. I can't wait!
