"PHANTOM MOVIE ACTORS ARE NOT SINGERS
It seems that our suspicions have been correct - hardly any members of the Phantom of the Opera movie cast can actually sing. The London Phantom West End cast have been drafted in to help with...voice-overs!!! A previous "Carlotta" who has performed at Her Majesty's Theatre, London has been asked to sing all tracks for Minnie Driver and then to add insult to injury: to sign an annonimity clause. This doesnt seem fair does it? Gererd Butler is reported to be having constant on set music rehearsals and lessons as his voice is definately not up to scratch.

The new Meg Giry: Jennifer Ellison has also been given a guide track by a previous/current London cast member. Finally more bad news. Members of the West End London Phantom cast have been in to record the parts of the "Managers" as a guide track for Simon Callow and Ciaran Hinds but in reality these voices will probably be electronically merged to give a more full sound. What a fake this movie is turning out to be. My advice: Go see the Broadway or West End production - you will have a much more enjoyable evening and hear some great voices!"

AHHHHHHHH I thought you were going to say the movie was cancelled!

Why would they put actors/actresses in the movie if they can't sing?? ah, I don't care, despite the singing thing- I think it will be a great movie.

Although how, in any way, this is a crushing disappointment is beoynd me.

I mean...Audrey Hepburn didn't sing in MY FAIR LADY and she was still magnificent.

Oh wait...that's right...no one in this film could even wipe Audrey Hepburn's ASS!!!!

ChristineDaae - dubbing has been done since long ago. In 'My Fair Lady' Eliza and Freddy were dubbed. And in 'Westside Story' Maria was dubbed by Marni Nixon, the same woman who 'secretly' dubbed Audrey Hepburn. Also Freddy was dubbed by a man named Bill Shirley.

Like I said...sorry guys.

Sorry, not true. Whatever source this came from is wrong on many levels. All the actors cast will sing their roles in the film. And Gerard Butler will suprise many people in how faithful his Phantom will be to the character in the musical,no matter what the many Crawford fanactics say, he understands the importance of this role.

As a matter of FACT, the information I've gotten is that the entire creative team is happily suprised a thow well Mr. Butler is singing his songs and the role in general...and wait til you see what the costumes look like, the Phantom is amazing!

We won't kill ourselves over this. You guys are a bit off with that. It's just some sad news. We didn't have that much faith in the movie to begin with. Most of us understood that it wouldn't be anything like the musical version. Oh well...no use explaining. I just wish you guys wouldn't be so bored as to have nothing better to do than bash fans of a musical.

Having been there from the beginning in 86', sitting in Her Majesty's and witnessing a wonderful and romantic evening of theater, I have high standards regarding how the film should be constructed. I have also seen many different Phantoms since, some who I have enjoyed as much or more so than Mr.Crawford in the title role. While Joel might kill me for saying this so early, Butler will BE your favorite Phantom, trust me, other than a few WEIRD breaks from the musical's structure it's faithful to the musical as we know and "love" it.

MlleDaae, just a short note for you, one of the reasons the actors who have gotten the roles were cast is because they could sing the score(many more well know names were auditioned)...and Carlotta will be much more of a foil for the Phantom in the film.
