Carlotta? Are you talking about Minnie Driver?

The only thing constant is change.
I think it's better that way. At least it will sound good. If anything. I'm way too tired to even read the rest of the thread so that is my two cents.
Jennifer Ellison...do we know her from anywhere...I looked at jenniferellison.com ...is that the same person?

(trembles with reply) There will be no voice dubbing in the upcoming film version of POTO, thank you. And yes, MD, Carlotta's role will be expanded a bit..allowing for more torture and the hands and "voice" of the Phantom!
I'd just like to add a couple of thoughts, if I may, as a fan of Phantom (the story itself, not just the ALW musical). I'm not a "freaky phan" nor a "MC worshiper" and I am doing what I can to keep an open mind about this film. I don't have any real problems with the casting and I've got my fingers crossed that Sheekala is right in saying the cast has been chosen based, at least partially, on their ability to handle what the role requires.
As for this dubbing info, from what I understand, it was posted on a message board by someone claiming to have a source. I'm pretty sure we all know by now that means squat. I'm also a little sick of the generalizations. Not all fans of Phantom are insane and one "Phan" cannot speak for all those who enjoy the musical/novel/etc. Having an open mind can be lots of fun. Give it a go sometime.
Sheekala - have you actually seen the costume designs????!

Yes, Kelly I've seen a number of production sketches of everything and it's very much based on the original designs of the show, taken to a whole new level..but the Phantom is The Phantom....and the only thing I can think of as to why the rumor of the London company being involved is that they do not want the actors getting all bogged down listening to the OCR..but when Gerard Butler sang "The Music of the Night" at his audition it was in the original key..Lloyd Webber was said to have clapped his hands in joy at the finish! By the way I am by no means saying this movie is going to be great or even good, it's just that there is an effort to translate what makes the stage show such an emotional hit with audiences onto the screen come Christmas 2004.
Wow. Can't please everyone.
I suppose it's foolish and fun to predict what will take place with the POTO movie. Everyone has their opinions, predictions and rumors about it. I'm just glad it will be available on film, regardless of the end result. Most of my theater pals feel this way.
Like it, hate it or love it...it's in a league of it's own and deserves to be out there as much as, (maybe more than) Cats, Joseph, JCS, J&H (minus Hasselhoff ) etc. etc.
If you don't like the film...don't buy it. After all, none of us contributed a thing to make it.

I was speaking in general terms, MlleDaae. No need to apologize.
Sheekala, it makes sense that they wouldn't want a Xerox copy of the OLC. I heard a while back that they were actually told not to see the musical - as if there's much of a chance they haven't already! I'm so hoping Gerard works out. From what I've read, he's got the right attitude toward the character (as far as I'm concerned) and if his voice works, I'll be content.
I'm not holding out for miracles - I'll see the film no matter what - but they do seem to heading in the right direction.
"I wonder how many Phans kill themselves over this."
No, your way off there. Of course we might be upset or at least I am but I'm not going to "kill" myself.

When did Alan Cumming drop out?

I'm not sure he was ever "signed"..I believe his TV show was greenlighted.

I checked out the actress who is playing Christine, Emmy Rossum, IMDB says she is 16, is that true? That would be strange to see her in a love triangle with two men in their 30's. It would be better if she was 18 playing 16, or maybe the IMDB got it wrong.
They also have Alan Cumming still signed on, any news, as someone said previously he was no longer with the movie.
"A 16 year old Christine, a 29 year old Raoul and a 33 year old Phantom. Right and Christine and Raoul are childhood friends? So…what else is there in the movie. Oh a sword fight between Phantom and Raoul? Loads of sense. Hmm Raoul and Christine engaging in premarital sex. Ok, lemme see he's 29 and she's 16. *shivers* But isn't the Phantom a father figure. So Christine likes younger men, so she'll go for Raoul who is 4 years younger than the Phantom and 13 years older than her. Did I mention CHILDhood friends? Well, this sounds like a good Phantom of the Opera movie, excuse me, I have to go puke now."
LOL!
This is kind of a joke at this point. I mean, we're all here for discussions... so discuss. People are firm in their beliefs. If there's one thing I learned, it's not to take it personally. MlleDaae, calm down a bit. You have your opinions too.
I'm done with that. As for the ages, I'm 26 but look 19. Not everyone looks their age. I'm sure the creative people thought of all this already. The gal probably looks older than she is. And maybe the dude looks younger than HE is... And this does take place in the far past, so really... the whole premarital sex, the father figure thing... it works - - it's very Euro!!
lol...
You need to get over your Crawford fan phobia. I resent you and others constantly jumping down our throats and calling us names like we're some kind of deranged animals. Any fandom has got those that go over the top, but most of us enjoy Michael's work just as you enjoy others, and no one jumps down your throat for the things that you say. We wanted Michael to do the movie, is that such a horrific crime that deserves this constant crap from people like you? He's not, and we're sorry about it, but life goes on.
I doubt very seriously this information is true, and if it is, as has been stated before, so what, dubbing has been going on forever.
Oh and thank you M- for trying to say something nice about Michael's fans, but we have learned that it does no good to try to defend ourselves because it only makes those that seem to despise us so much get even nastier. I probably made it worse with what I said, but I just get so tired of it. I resent the crack about the Bash as well, but I'm already off topic.
I'm really not understanding where in that story it says anyone's singing voice will be dubbed.

I have one thing to say:
"Well DUH! Who really and seriously thought that Minnie Driver would be singing the operetic Carlotta???"
