I know there was at least one show where it was performed with accents. Anyone catch it?

Posted: 3/16/07 at 12:00pmReally?! All the times I've seen this show from Chicago to now, I have yet to see them perform with accents. Hmmm..
re: PQ: Now with Irish accents?#3
Posted: 3/16/07 at 12:27pmif only a change in accents could save this mess...
re: PQ: Now with Irish accents?#4
Posted: 3/16/07 at 12:30pmThere were accents at the show I was at- at least, there were some attempts at accents with certain words or something, but it was definitely *not* everyone and it was *not* consistent.

When I saw the show March 11, I only heard one Irish accent -- Tiernan. Actually, two, since the actress playing Eveleen is Irish. Hadley's Irish accent sounded pretty good to my American ears...

WAT - great! I look forward to reading your comments.
Anakela - I should've been clearer that what I read in regards to accents was about last night's show. Hopefully it's more consistant now then when you saw it.
KEC - Steph and Marcus do it too now I guess.
Seems like they are testing out audience response. I'm curious to find out how much of it stays and what the thoughts on it are.
It didn't bother me to not have any in Chicago. In general I prefer none if the alternative comes off as counter-productive and distracting.

Without A Trace- I'll see you there tonight. I really wanted to see the show one more time in previews, and was able to get a cheap single seat for tonight. Can't wait to see what they've been working on.
At the Gypsy Run I did not notice accents, but then when I went back a few days later I definitely heard some Irish coming through in Stephanie, Hadley and Marcus. I didn't notice it so much in Jeff. I personally thought it added a very nice dimension to the show. And I have to say, the three of them seemed to have a very nice handle on the sound, not that I am a master of accents or anything. I'll report back tomorrow on how/if they've continued to incorporate it into the show, and if everyone is doing it now or not. I'd hope if any of them are, then all of them are.
And Theater Boy, I'm sorry you felt the show was a mess. I'll have to go back and read your review to see what you didn't like about it. I'm always interested to hear from both sides of the divide.
Until tomorrow-
QB
ps- I've noticed the overall buzz surrounding this show has drastically improved over the past week. Not simply on this board, but in hearing people talk about the show around town. A good sign.

Posted: 3/16/07 at 1:20pmLack of accents didn't really bother me either. I wouldn't even have given it a thought, except when I heard Hadley's accent I thought it sounded pretty good, as I said.

I wouldn't be surpised if one of the main factors in deciding to do an Irish accent was actually Hadley's English accent. When I saw the show in Chicago, I was somewhat thrown off that the Irishman fighting the English sounded so...well...ENGLISH! Not that it took anything away from his glorious rendition of I'll Be There! But now that they've added so much dialogue to the show, they probably wanted to hide the fact that the man leading the fight against the English is, in "real life", FROM England!
Maybe?

Posted: 3/16/07 at 1:57pmI saw it last night and yes they do now have irish accents. They have also changed the ending as well as the scene in which Eoin is born. It's definiely coming along! They are working hard to make changes everyday and make it more solid!

I hope you like it better this time around Without A Trace! The changes they've made are definitely positive ones!
Also thought I'd put out there that she doesn't say the F word she says "Fops."

fops :) I'm going to try and incorporate that into a conversation today.
Definition of Fop:
"A man who is preoccupied with and often vain about his clothes and manners; a dandy.
[Middle English, fool; probably akin to Middle English fob, trickster, cheat}"

Posted: 3/16/07 at 3:00pmif you would like to interpret it that way. But I believe she's calling them fools or something of that sort.
re: PQ: Now with Irish accents?#18
Posted: 3/16/07 at 3:02pmwhy did she use the F-word in the first preview? that was so strange...
re: PQ: Now with Irish accents?#19
Posted: 3/16/07 at 3:08pmThat's the thing...She DIDNT use the f word in the first preview!

Posted: 3/16/07 at 3:38pmI had heard that part of the song before the first preview and I too thought she was saying the f word. I was sitting fairly close in row G so I watched her and could see that it was NOT the f word. and later figured out she was saying fops. She has a way of pronouncing her words that if she was saying the f word she would put extra emphasis on the k.

That is so true...If Steph were dropping an "F" Bomb, you would be aboulutely sure of it.
re: PQ: Now with Irish accents?#23
Posted: 3/16/07 at 6:56pmI agree. You would hear it loud and CLEAR coming from her mouth. And with an Irish accent to boot! LOL

Tiny_dancer~
Do you believe that the pronunciation (in the singing) would be definite?
I didn't hear the F*** word when I last saw the show...however I wasn't looking for it (and sometimes my hearing is off.)
I really don't believe Stephanie would even consider say F___! But, that is just my opinion.
