Posted: 5/8/06 at 6:54pmAre there any pictures of this show out there? I'm fascinated with it. Is it the biggest flop in recent years? Not as in financial loss, but in terms of quickness. It opened and closed within a few days. Does any have a link to the "opening night" video on Broadway.com? or was there one? Thanks.

Oh man...what a horrible, horrible show that was! I'm kind of glad I managed to see it for free. I ceratinly wouldn't want to have paid to see it, but it's one of those train wrecks that must be seen to be believed!

What's to say? This is the show that featured Victoria Newman from THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS performing a sexual act upon a gorilla played by an original cast member of AIN'T MISBEHAVIN'. There's a scene that won't soon leave my memory...

Posted: 5/8/06 at 7:30pmI believe it was not only on Corine's top five of all time but also gave her the inspiration to do that thing in the Bronx Zoo that led to her arrest last year...

Posted: 5/8/06 at 7:32pmI believe it was show originally produced at FSU and was a hit there. So then someone decided to move it to broadway that's all I know.

Weird. Seems like such an absurd play. I can't wait to check it out of the library for a quick read.
It's amazing what people will give money.
And BobbyBuddy - let me do me okay?

Yes, it began at FSU.
The drama, so to speak, surrounding it gained the show tons of attention. Basically, people were outraged that a black man was playing a gorilla - attributing to the stereotype. But Andre, himself, said that it's a stereotype because it's true, so we may as well deal with it. He had no problems with it, so why should anyone else.
Oh, yeah. The lead woman was deaf.

OMG, this sounds amazing. I wish I had known about it when it was on Broadway. Perhaps then I could find more stuff on it.
It's a sterotype because it's true? Not sure I get that.

Posted: 5/8/06 at 11:00pmWow, how brillant. 8% capacity? Wow. That is amazing. I would have gone to see it just for the sheer fact that it was a mess. I can't wait to read it. I'm gonna try and find the Times review.

Posted: 5/8/06 at 11:01pmI have seen Andre de Shields perform as Graham the Gorilla and it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. He totally transforms himself. The experience inspired me to read the play, which I didn't find much worth in. Still, what I saw of his performance was pretty awesome. I would've been intrigued to actually see the show.

Posted: 5/8/06 at 11:04pmYeah, judging by the photots, he actually seems like he was decent in the role. It's a very intriguing idea for a play, but maybe ideas couldn't grasp the absurdness of it?
