from NY Post's Page Six:
September 2, 2009 --

HE showed off his muscles as he emerged from the water wearing a pair of tight-fitting trunks as James Bond in "Casino Royale." But despite his macho image, Daniel Craig seems both shaken and stirred by New York as he prepares for his Broadway debut in "A Steady Rain."

Craig, 41, has demanded personal security be available to shadow him at all times while his equally famous co-star, Hugh Jackman, hasn't asked for any protection at all, sources told Page Six.

The Hollywood actors play Chicago cops whose friendship is put to the test in the much-anticipated drama, which starts previews next week and opens Sept. 29.

"Everybody thinks it's funny because the truth is, Daniel rarely gets approached by the public in the street and at restaurants -- especially now that he has the huge handlebar moustache for this role," a production source said.

Another Broadway insider said, "Security and secrecy around the show are so tight that Jackman and Craig are rehearsing at a secret location outside the city."

This isn't the first time that Craig -- who's rented a lavish, $38,000-a-month apartment with top security as his safe haven in town -- has been accused of being a wimp. In 2005, he made a splash in London when he was unveiled as the new James Bond on a Royal Marine commando boat -- looking seasick and wearing a life jacket. Craig even admitted the ride had scared "the [bleep] out of me."

His dad, Tim Wroughton-Craig, was forced to jump to his defense following claims the star was scared of guns. He said at the time, "It is all cobblers. Daniel is a hard lad -- you wouldn't want to meet him in a dark street. Is he a wimp? No, I wouldn't like to call him that to his face. He can look after himself all right."

Craig's publicist couldn't be reached.

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Ummmm....who cares? If he feels unsafe, warranted or not, he's doing the right things so that he can be more comfortable. Maybe he's got phobias that no one knows or is talking about.

wow...must be a slow week.

I agree, who cares?? We don't know him personally and he might have had some really bad experiences before and also lord knows we've all seen the bat s**t crazy fans at the stagedoors and if I remember right the crowd outside Boy From Oz was known for being rather intense.

What matters is the performance and as long as he shows up and acts his socks off (which i'm sure he will) I don't care at all what precautions he makes to ensure he can do his job 100%.

Has anyone seen the "Hugh Jackman and Daniel Crag Show" comic in this week's New York? Semi-related.

I hope, despite his apprehension, that he will still come out of the stage door to sign playbills and take photos. I know some people think stage door fans are crazy, but I would really appreciate the opportunity to meet him especially since my boss and his wife are flying down with me and my wife to see the show (my boss' last name is Bond).
I guess we'll see.

Given the amount of nuts who will be seeking his autograph and hanging around the stage door, I don't blame him in the least.

This seems like a complete non-story to me.

Daniel Craig IS a star.

The New York Post is NOT a newspaper.

Compare, contrast and discuss the previous statements.

This is a total non-issue

I completely agree with him wanting security, considering some the rabid, screaming overzealous nutcases that frequent stage doors these days.

It says personal security, so if he wants to pay for it who cares? Who knows if he has a stalker? Certainly not the Ny Post. Jackman has spent far more time in NYC and may not have the same security issues. The NY Post really didn't have anything else to report this week.

The Post is basically saying that Craig is acting like a wimp because he feels unsafe. And his celebrity isn't big enough to warrant security. Even if hundreds of fans aren't chasing him, if there's even one risk to his security he should be able to take precautions. The Post is basically saying "suck it up and act like a man". Idiots.

This is news worthy? Its more like tabloid reporting for some gossip magazine.

If Daniel Craig wants security and Hugh Jackman doesnt who cares and why does this deserve a spot in a news paper.

The story is lame and as everyone else said, take a look at the nutjobs holding DVD cases at the stage door and you might want security too. Fans are bananas half the time.

I sat across the aisle from him and (I guess) his wife (is he married?) at SPRING AWAKENING last year. Not one person approached him and only a few heads really turned to look at him.

So we've got an English actor (Daniel Craig) going to New York (for a play) and he's the star of a pretty big franchise (James Bond).

Considering what happened* when another English actor (Robert Pattinson) went to New York (for a film) as the star of a pretty big franchise (Twilight), I don't blame him for being a little nervous.

*screaming fangirls pushed him under a cab, in case you weren't aware.

Oh no! Someone feels anxious about their personal security, and takes sensible measures to feel safe! How dare he! How very dare he! Isn't it better to be protected and not need it than to need protection and not have it? :P

I don't think screaming fangirls (mostly teens) are going to be running after Daniel Craig in NY... the "RPatz" craze is a whole other animal....

When Hugh Jackman and Robert Pattinson, together with Rachel Weisz, start filming their new movie together ( THE UNBOUND CAPTIVES), maybe Hugh may have to get personal security ( to shield him from being run over by the screaming fangirls of RPatz) re: Page Six: Daniel Craig: A Wimp?
