I was wondering since its been announced that The Pajama Game is going to be reopening in the fall, wil it be considered part of the same run as the current revival.
hmm... i'm sure not, but interesting question. maybe someone can clear it up
I don't know the answer for sure, but if I had to guess, I'd say it would be considered an extension of the same run (and would not be eligible for 2007 Tony awards).

I really don't think re-casting and opening again is a good idea. I saw this Saturday night and the cast in place is just spectacular. Without Harry and Kelli - I don't see it working very well and there are a couple of ensemble people who are moving on to other projects as well.
I saw Jeffrey Schecter as Prez that night - (understudy) and he was fantastic! He is also moving on to the role of Mark in Chorus Line. Really looking forward to that.
Yeah, I think a commercial transfer is a huge mistake. This is, cast aside - without a doubt a good production - but as far as money, without two big stars and rave reviews, I think it will be a huge flop.
I also think its a really bad idea to continue the show, unless it has two big stars, but what if the producers could find another big star to take over for Harry.

No one will have what Harry and Kelli have between them - plus - they would have to re-work Hernando. Half of the number rely's in Harry's unique talent. The other half relies in Megan Lawrence's brilliant performance. Also - Michael McKean and Roz Ryan are excellent too - it's going to be very difficult to pull off in my opinion. But...you never know.
Personally, I think that a revival of this commonly HS produced show was a fluke. I mean the cast is wonderful. I don't see it selling well as an open run. I just bought the CD last night and this cast sounds great!
It's a horrible idea. The only reason all of my friends and family have seen it (I haven't seen it. It's just not my cup of tea) is because of Harry. Without him or someone close to his star-power, this will be a flop. Everybody who has seen it says the show is completely dated and it just wouldn't work without the cast. But whatever. Maybe if they get someone like Hugh it would work. (:
Despite the announcement, only Harry has ruled out returning in the fall. I read an article ( on Playbill.com I believe) where Kelli said it was still up in the air and she wasnt sure if she would return or not.

Cheezedoodle- hit the nail right on the head.
They need to rework Hernandos, and i agree, I like it as a musical that schools can use. I think while the material is light-hearted, sweet, and quirky, I just need to see if they find either people with no-names as of now, or just funny, quirky people. I agree about Harry and Kelli's relationship, how they had a chemistry meeting and it worked,(and apparently, it worked for us, too) so I mean, if they cna find two actors willing to have that sort of bond(i.e., being adorable) I'd want to see it. You never know what the gods of casting can find.
cheezedoodle - hey i was at the same performance :) on saturday night as well :)
However, i think it'd be ok to recast it. I do think you'd want to keep a lot of the other people. Honesetly, Harry Connick playd absolutely 0% of me wanting to see it. For me it was mostly cause of Kelli O'hare, and also cause it seemed good.
There needs to be a minimum of 3 years in between different productions of the same show in order for the new one to be considered a revival. Aside from the fact that this is the same production, just different casting. It's all Kathleen Marshall's direction and choreography, same lighting, sets, and costumes. This will be an extension of the current revival production with replacement cast members and will not be eligible for this upcoming year's awards.

Megan Lawrence's performance was ok. I much prefered Joyce Chitticks performance to hers. Pitty she was not Nominated for a Tony award instead of Megan
