They are still lining up one or two more investors but they are planning on bringing this musical to Broadway. The only thing that is holding them up is that Des has a VERY busy schedule over the next year.
They also plan on bringing Zhivago to Broadway but it will play one more city before it actually reaches Broadway for some final work. And The Wiz will not be part of the San Fransisco season since Des doesn't have time- but they are still planning on a transfer.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 12:37am...I know I could search, but I figured others have this same question, but what is "Palm Beach." I'm aware of the fact that it played at La Jolla, but I just dont know what it's about, or what it's based on.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 1:22amI'm a junkie for 40s screwball comedy. Preston Sturgess' PALM BEACH STORY is one of my favorite comedies...guess the musical borrows the title from that movie. It'd be interesting to see how this shapes up, especially if Cavenaugh is in it.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 1:51amneddy..thanks for this very exciting news...I was watching this show from afar as it played SoCal, and wasn't able to get down there to see it in person...I read all the reviews and followed the threads, but would like to ask you for a little more of your opinion about the show. Cast, song set, etc...any more you can let me know about?

Great News!
I loved the show. Saw it twice.
If and when it does transfer I hope they keep the same cast, they were all amazing in their parts.

It was so long ago it is hard to remember.
The set was a double turntable (like the one used in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels) and the whole show took place in different rooms of the house. The set was mostly a light sea colour blue and green- very 1940's. The show also used different platforms (scafolding) and was both very technical and simple at the same time. Meaning while the show used a lot of new technology (it was Des- what do you expect!) he used it in a very simple way.
The songs were VERY 1940's and the whole show was really poking fun at the 1940's. It was a very over the top show. The song A Bad Man Is Easy To Find stopped the show and that was sung by Amanda Watkins and Erica Biccininni. And just in case they hadn't shoved it in your face enough that this show is poking fun- they really make sure you remember it with the over the top ending (I don't want to give anything away so PM me if you want me to tell you what it was)!
The book could use some rewriting in the second act because it did tend to drag on at certain points.
Here is the song list:
ACT ONE
Prelude
A Family Is A Truly Priceless Thing
Pal Beach (That's Where I Belong)
To Serve You
Lise
Lise (Reprise)
Palm Beach (Reprise)
Bachelor Street
I Still See You/Who, What, Where
To Be A Proper Servant
Fly With Me
The End Of The World
Finale Act One
ACT TWO
Entr'acte
The Happy Hour
Who Needs Love?
Palm Beach (Reprise)
May The Best Man Win
I'm Fine
A Bad Man Is Easy To Find
Lise (Reprise)
Who, What, Where (Reprise)
Finale Ultimo

Posted: 5/12/07 at 10:36amI was hoping it was a musical version of Sturges' "Palm Beach Story", but, alas, no. They'll be no Weenie King song. Darn.

Posted: 5/12/07 at 10:39amI saw it in La Jolla and it was a deliriously funny show. Similar to DROWSY in that it is a frothy period piece chock full of archtypes, but different in that it is a genuin, old fashioned musical comedy - there is no naval gazing or arched eyebrow commenting to be had anywhere. It's just pure fun. And I was humming tunes for days. I'm glad to hear it it finally making its way east.
