Pretty good season. Even though I am not a big fan of the stage adaptation of 'The Little Mermaid' it would be great if they get Julia Murney to play Ursula.

Posted: 2/29/12 at 2:59pmI imagine Mermaid will be based on the reworked Dutch production rather than the Broadway production. Wonder if Disney are planning to tour this production in the US in 2013/14.

The 3D rerelease is scheduled for September 2013 so it's possible they're tying in a regional production alongside the limited run of the rerelease.

^ It's also possible that if this production is a success and they decide to launch a tour, they might film some footage for the Diamond Edition Blu-Ray and DVD.
Even after the musical 'Beauty and the Beast' closed on Broadway, one of the special features in the film's Diamond Edition was about the history of the Broadway show and it also included footage from the 2010 Networks tour.

What a thoroughly uninteresting season. They did both Sound of Music and A Chorus Line within the last decade or so.
Millie is a safe, if dull, choice.
Tenor could be fun if they get a strong cast.
The only one that remotely interests me is Mermaid, simply because I want to see if the material is just bad, or if the blame for the disaster that was the Broadway production rests on the shoulders of that horrible creative team they assembled.

I agree the Broadway production was a mess. The costumes and sets were major disappointments. I was also not a fan of some parts of the book. It also lacked the heart that the film had.
The only redeming things about it were introduced me to Sierra Boggess, who is now my favorite Christine Daaé after her amazing performance in the 25th Anniversary production of 'Phantom of the Opera'. I also started to become a fan of Sherrie Rene Scott's but it was not until after 'Everday Rapture'.

Posted: 2/29/12 at 5:46pmI imagine the book is being rewritten as well although they've retained Doug Wright. Unlike Tarzan where they expanded the concept for the Dutch production, it looks like they're starting from scratch and if this production is well received in The Netherlands, it'll be the definete production of Mermaid.

I agree Mermaid is a mess and many ofthe book choices were misguided (I won't even give that much credit to the design), but I admit I like a lot of the new music (well I could do without the new song for Scuttle, but...) Granted the songs I like the best may be partly due to them being based on elements of Menken's film underscore which I know by heart from listening to it so much as a kid.
I assume ACL will be the classic staging?

SEASON PHOTOS EXPLAINED:
From Left to Right, Top to Bottom: A Chorus Line (God, I hope I get it), The Sound of Music (A drop of golden sun), Disney's The Little Mermaid (There are octopus tentacles on that thing-a-ma-bob), Thoroughly Modern Millie (A train ticket to Kansas) and Lend Me a Tenor (That is the Cleveland Opera House). Well done on the guesses!

If anyone was curious about whether this production of 'The Little Mermaid' will tour, the show's lyricist Glenn Slater says that a United States tour will hopefully happen after the reworked version of the show tours Europe.
