My father is an accountant and when I mentioned the Papermill problem to him,he bascially said that its prettyobvious that even if it gets saved this year, it'll run into the same problem next year and in the following years if something isn't changed.

I think the smartest thing these private companies could do is to underwrite an emergency development program for the Papermill. They should hire the best fundraising team possible, at market rate, and have them put together a fundraising program that will get them back in shape.
Until their earned versus contributed revenue percentages change they'll never be solvent.

Posted: 4/6/07 at 9:52amI agree. For myself, I only attend once a year during their summer production (Ragtime, Hello Dolly). Hopefully the rest of the productions can be as good and increase subscriptions.

For one thing, they need to find a way to make the shows more accesible to NYC audiences. It used to be you could easily take a train out there and back from the city, but the last trains now leave before the final curtain.
If they had certain performances with chartered bus options straight to Manhattan - they'd definitely increase their subscription sales with people from the city.

They could also adjust curtain time to coincide with the train schedule.

I find it somewhat ironic that they announce that they will close later, on Good Friday.
Thankfully though, it's later and not now.

I agree, Yankeefan.
This is just a band-aid. Many things need to change drastically in the next year, or they will be in the same exact situation, with a less than sympathetic response from the public.

Posted: 4/7/07 at 6:51amAre you sure about the train schedules? I just looked and on Sat night they have a 10:49 and an 11:49 leaving Milburn. If the shows aren't over by then then I think they have a problem with pacing, not train schedules!
