I have attended the current revival of Sweeney Todd twice and I say to you it is nothing but an arrant fraud, concocted from piss and ink. I wager that just about anyone could direct a production with ten times more dexterity than this street mountebank!
Will Beadle Bamford be the Judge?

It seems to me that this show wasn't very enjoyable...
I'm sorry you did not like it.
I have yet to see it.
Why would you feel the need to create this thread? You come across as pathetic, especially moments after Brantley's qualified rave was posted on the adjacent thread.
Even though I think he posted his bad review in the wrong way, I have to agree with him. After walking out, I just thought the show was too pretentious for my taste. And I couldn't understand anything they were saying.
"...You come across as pathetic, especially moments after Brantley's qualified rave was posted on the adjacent thread..."
Brantley does not control my thoughts. If that's pathetic, then so be it.
Well you fall among the pitiful minority in this case, my friend.
So Brantly liked it. He is the be all & end all I guess. Sweeney was never one of my favorites. Did not come out of the theater humming any songs if you know what I mean
Actually, I don't agree with the New York Times on mostly all of their reviews. They didn't like Absurd Person Singular, while I did, for example.
I agree Roxy. Not one song stuck in my head.
There have been several less than favorable reviews about this show already.
Actually the show was wonderful, I've seen it twice while it's been in previews. I really did adore it.
I didn't say that because Brantley liked it, everyone should.
This production is too positively brilliant for anyone with any grasp of theatre to NOT like it. It baffles me.
So...you left not humming any songs, therefore it's not a good show? Not one song stuck in your head?
Well perhaps the reasoning for that is that you just don't have the capacity to understand, process, and marvel at something so brilliantly f-ing brilliant.
Using one, two, or even a handful of critics reviews to justify not liking or liking a show is just absurd. If you like it, you liked it. If you didn't, you didn't. No one else's opinion should affect your own. Of course, if you're going to start a thread saying you hated a show, you might want to say WHY, and I hardly think the fact that you didn't walk out of the theatre humming the songs is much of a reason. What is musical theatre just about catchy tunes?
Since when is it "bad form" on these boards to say you don't like something?
People who live in big fat glass houses shouldn't throw stones... and they shouldn't resort to personal attacks, either.

I had Pretty Women and Not While I'm Around in my head after.
best12bars: I didn't say that it was bad form to express an opinion, but this particular opinion was already expressed in previous threads. There's no need to create another thread - on opening night- saying how dreadful it is.
Having seen over 500 shows in over 40 years I think I have some knowledge of the theater. It appears because I did not care for Sweeney (loved Follies) I am a denizen from Green Acres or Hooterville. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It was enjoyable in its way but I did not think it was ******* brilliant

It's more than ok to have an opinion, to dislike something. However, I think its extremely unfair to the people who have worked so incredibly hard on this production to phrase one's dislike in the way the original poster phrased it.
Morosco, what specifically didn't you like?
I really don't think you should get hostile to people if they merely voice their opinion.

When you have a moment, send me the links to those threads so I can add my two cents (and I promise not to do it until opening night is over). Thanks.
Hey, did you leave THE PILLOWMAN humming that brilliant score? How about reciting lines?
Just curious.
Here is a news flash - Pillowman was not a musical. It was a straight play which my wife & I, excuse me for plagarism , found ******* brilliant
Carry on but avoid getting into a pissing contest
It wasn't a musical? That's right. But oh, that Tony-eligible score it had!
Oh the Tony committee that neglected to nominate Mack & Mabel for a ( sorry again) ******* brilliant score ?
I guess now the Tony award is the be all & end all. I found it a joke that the score was nominated but sometimes the Tony committee will go out of their way to avoid nominating something by nominating something off the wall. This is a very good example. Another is nominating the score from Juan Darien a Carnival Mass . A great many toe tappers came out of that one.
