Don't think I'm starting a rumor here, this is just speculation. But do you think, once BOM has run out of some steam, that Trey Parker and Matt Stone would consider stepping into the show's two main roles themselves?
I know they're not quite "right" for them, at least in the way that Rannells and Gad are, but they're Parker and Stone, probably the most notable comedy duo of the past 20 years, between performing the entirety of South Park, and films like Cannibal! and Baseketball.
I'd see it. Thoughts?
The only reason that would happen would be if it was in desprate need of sales... Which we all knw will not happen for a very very long time.
Both are over 40 - a little long in the tooth to play 19 year olds, no?
Both are busy with other projects and contractual obligations, too. So no way.
Also, without the training or -- and I'm just GUESSING here, so don't FLAME me -- stamina to do eight shows a week.
But, yeah, no, it could totally happen. All the logistics are right.

There are vocal demands that no one seems to be taking into consideration here.
Well, technically they kind of ARE already in it, as they record the voice overs for Mormon, Moroni and Jesus at the beginning.
Honestly though, I'd rather see them create new content than starring in older stuff. Leave the acting to the actors- they should be writing.
Moroni is Rory O'Malley's voice. But Matt's voice is the voice of Mormon and Trey's is the voice of Jesus.
Cool- thanks for clarification, Smaxie! Also, I can never tell which is Matt and which is Trey on South Park either. X)
By the way, after watching last night's 'South Park,' does anyone get the impression after watching this week's 'South Park' that the show may be coming to an end soon, possibly even this season? It was a pretty bleak, cynical vision of the show and pop culture commentary at the end through Stan, and I have to wonder if it was a bit of advance notice by Trey and Matt that they're nearing the last days of the show.
I just had a student tell me yesterday that next season will, indeed, be the last for South Park.
Huh- well I guess that's more optimistic than just finishing out the season. I still don't think there's any solid publically released word though, unless your student knows otherwise (?). OT note though: I hope Stan isn't really leaving South Park for good as was indicated! He's for sure my favorite among the main characters--- except possibly Butters.
That being said, I wouldn't begrudge Parker and Stone for ending South Park if they did it so as to go and work on more Broadway and film musical projects.

What's-his-name and Whoozis are "the most notable comedy duo of the past 20 years"? If so, I think it says more about the dearth of well-known comedy duos than anything else. In any case, I can't imagine either of them being a draw or recognized on the street.
But... they surely are both.
Maybe not walking down a street, but if you put either near a college campus or high school, I am absolutely sure they would be mobbed/recognized. They have an enormous enormous following, and you can't run a show for 15 sucessful seasons without quite a backing of the sort. Not to mention, unlike say, The Simpsons, South Park has remained quality and relevant for each of its 15 years.
I don't think they're THE most notable comedy duo of the last 20 years- Amy Poehler/Tina Fey I think may take that title- but they are still incredibly powerful in the entertainment community.

Ha! South Park shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as the Simpsons.

Trey did say in a recent interview with the New York Times that he and Matt are definitely planning to write/compose more original musicals. I would not be surprised at all if the success of Mormon signals their full transition from television to theater.
No. This thread was stupid.

Trey and Matt's act prologues are hysterical. "I have come back from dying for your sins, you guys" I'm kinda perturbed they didn't include it on the cast album. (probably didn't want to confuse/anger those buying the album expecting something else after) As well as Cunningham's "F you to heavenly father?! Holy moly I said it like 13 times!" which is on the lyrics in the liner notes.
