I was more excited they used "Anything You Can Do" from Annie Get Your Gun.

Patrick, get off your butt, call up Paul Scott Goodman, and get some producers to bring Bright Lights, Big City to Broadway. Starring you.
It's almost like a sliding scale of theatre nerdery.
Not theatre-nerdy at all: "OMG Claire Danes!"
Quite theatre-nerdy: "OMG Patrick Wilson!"
Very theatre-nerdy: "OMG 'Annie, Get Your Gun'!"
Incredibly theatre-nerdy: "OMG the [insert cast here] recording of 'Annie, Get Your Gun'!"
Or something. XD

This is my new favorite commercial...just ahead of the MasterCard one where the animals take care of their sick zookeeper.
Anyway, I didn't realize Patrick Wilson was in it until I came to the boards. I had only heard the spot first since I had the TV on as background noise while working on my midterm papers. I thought, "Oh, hey Merman singing 'Annie Get Your Gun'" but didn't watch it. Then when I did, I was surprised to see Claire Danes. But they are cute together and the commercial is well done. Bravo, Gap, bravo!
aww i saw this commercial on TV not that long ago but i didn't have my glasses on so i assumed it was so lame-o dancing around. yay for my boyfriend Patrick Wilson!
oh shame on me, i totally didnt recognize him. or her for that matter. maybe I need new glasses. :-/
I DID recognize Jesse Tyler Ferguson in the Ugly Betty promo tho.
There was another spot a few years back for Tide using the old Decca cast album track of "Anything You Can Do" with Merman/Middleton. Trouble was, it is one of those older flat sounding decca recordings and I wondered why the ad agency didn't use the Lincoln center version. When I heard the ad on TV I thought is was Tide again but that they had updadetd the recording to the more modern vesrion.
Of course, most GAP customers have no idea who Ethel Merman is or where the song originated.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
Wait...so which version is playing in this GAP commercial? Is it Merman and Middleton?

I was amused, but a little saddened as well--I know he's getting paid well for it, but I couldn't prevent a small lament--"Oh, Patrick, has it come to this? Hawking Gap pants on TV?"
I thought he looked a little awkward when he was dancing.
I've seen it like five times in the past two hours. It's adorable.

Considering Patrick isn't really known as a dancer, I thought he did pretty well.
The only thing that would've made me like the commercial more is if Patrick and Claire were actually singing the song.
Stage manager, totally mentioned it before you. Well, not the youtube part, but the part that the link should be taken down.
That recording is from the 1966 Lincoln Center revival, so it's Bruce Yarnell singing with Merman.
By 1966, Merman's voice had acquired the foghorn quality we all like to make fun of (some of us lovingly, some not). In 1946, when she played the role originally, she still had some of the sweetness you can hear on her 1930s recordings. You can hear the difference on the two recordings.
The 1966 revival, for those young 'uns amongst us, was dubbed GRANNY GET YOUR GUN by theater wags. It was most famous for an anachronistic entrance she made on a motorcycle, and for the addition of the Old-Fashioned Wedding contrapuntal duet.
"Oh, Patrick, has it come to this? Hawking Gap pants on TV?"
actually i think this is a pretty good thing for patrick gap is known for having pretty big stars in there commercials and ads.
i reconized both of them and i love the commercial so much!
I saw it a couple of weeks ago.
It was pretty cute.
The Gap has been featuring Oscar-nominee Don Cheadle and Wentworth Miller (Prison Break) in their ads, so for him to appear in their commercial is a step up, if anything.
just saw this yesterday, so cute! i loved it. it's nice to see some broadway on tv these days... and also patrick wilson - he totally needs to come back to broadway!
Penelope Cruz was also in an ad, and Helen Mirren was part of their Christmas campaign.
Does anyone remember those series of black and white GAP commericals from a few years ago? Each one was directed by a guest director and starred Orlando Bloom, Kate Beckinsale, Christina Ricci, Dennis Hopper, and Scarlet Johansson, among others.
I think it's a step up for Patrick too. Good for him.
that is effin ADORABLE!!! wow.
I love this commercial! GAP has amazing commercials. This and the Dancing Audrey are two of my FAVORITES.

What the @*%# are 'boyfriend pants'? For women to wear...but only if they have boyfriends? Can men wear them? What if they're not a boyfriend?
The commercials are cute, but I wish the Gap would stop making up clothes.
Finally saw the commercial today...too adorable!!!
