I love Patti, but she just seems to have multiple personality disorder. She can't decide if she wants to make the song funny or milk it for emotion, so she tries both and can't quite get either out of it.
Also, I'm sure it's period-appropriate, so to speak, but her weave is cah-RAZY.

Posted: 11/22/09 at 12:13pmDecades ago Patti LaBelle recorded "Look to the Rainbow" from FINIAN'S RAINBOW. On the OBCR from 1947, not all the verses are sung. On the Patti LaBelle recording, she does wonders with all the verses. "Send in the Clowns" is another matter.

My ears! My ears!
A perfect example of style over substance. She doesn't give a damn about the lyrics or the meaning of the song. It's all an excuse to twist and turn the melody and show off.
An absolute abomination.

And if you thought it couldn't get ANY worse after 1:33...
And WTF is with the sistah Kenny G and why is she playing a melody that has nothing to do with this song?!
P
Use this to get that nasty taste out of your ears!

Posted: 11/22/09 at 8:06pmThis is from a 1991 concert at The Apollo. The DVD was released in 2000 (I own it). I wasn't too crazy about her rendition of this song either. But she kind of used it as a lead in to her next song "Rush Rush" (Yeah, the Paula Abdul song). Her hair probably looks crazy because she was 6 songs into the show and had already been flinging it around!
