Patti LuPone discusses Women on the Verge....

But in all honestly, what else could she say? Could she honestly lambast a production that is about to open or denigrate the book or score? I think it's lovely bit of PR for the show.

I must have missed the genius in the score. I imagine singingthe songs for weeks on end gives you a better insight and o-pprecation for the score than someone who hears it once.

It was nothing genius to me.

I think she'd know if she was in a trainwreck. Hell, she WAS in a trainwreck...The Baker's Wife, anyone?

I'm sure this is how LuPone feels. She's a pretty honest individual. If she felt otherwise, she wouldn't have agreed to the interview, and would have just dished in the next edition of her memoirs.

Maybe. But I can't imagine any producer in their right mind sending an actively unhappy Patti LuPone out into the world to respresent their show to the press.

My POV has changed to one of such relentless optimism I can't actually comprehend looking at this show and not seeing there's a good show there? When farce isn't firing on all cylinders, it can seem like a miss. But to me, I see the good show in there. Will they get to it? There's where my relentless optimism is.

Has Patti ever recorded "Sleepy Man"? Do we know why she was not on the The Robber Bridegroom cast recording?

I love the "I would rather be in New York" crack.

If Patti did not think the show had potential or was terrible she would not have said what she did. After reading her memoir, I have the utmost respect for her and her opinion on a show she is in. The show must not be as bad as a lot of people on here say.

Do we know why she was not on the The Robber Bridegroom cast recording?

She wasn't in the cast that recorded the album. She and the rest of The Acting Company toured with the show in 1975, and their 14 show engagement was just one stop on the tour. The 1976 return with Barry Bostwick and Rhonda Coullet was the cast that recorded the album.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad
