I want to bring Patti an Evita poster to sign. For some reason I feel like she may have ill feelings towards the show, despite the fact that it won her a Tony. She doesn't mention it in her Sweeney bio and I was just curious if anyone knows of her having a bad attitude towards the show.
I don't want to ask her to sign the poster and have her say: "Oh, honey, I don't sign Evita things..." or something along those lines. Anyone have an idea of how she would feel about it?
Patti is great with her fans, and understands the whole "Evita" thing.
You have nothing to worry about. She'd be happy to sign it for you.
Yeah, I agree. She doesn't like talking about Evita, but she will happily sign it. As long as you're not rude to her, or ask prying questions, she's always graceful and polite to all her fans
She still sings "Don't Cry for Me..." in concerts right? I imagine you'd be safe.
If you brought a Madonna movie poster for her to sign, that might be another can of worms.
Last night at the Sweeney stagedoor, my mom mentioned how she loved Evita, and she was really gracious. She took a picture with me afterward, so she couldn't have been too uncomfortable.
BroadwayBubby- Haha- I think that would open more than just a can of worms! Patti would put the smack down on ya'!
Or how about?
"Hey Patti. WOuld you go to this nearby balcony, sing Don't Cry for Me Argentina? THen would you go into an alley and sing I Dreamed a Dream? And then would you go on a cruise ship and sing I Get a Kick out of You? That'd be great Pats, thanks."
Do you think that'd go over well?

As I was in a production of Anything Goes over the summer, I could perform with her.
Really? Bubby~ Hmmm....I think she would get out her handy fold-up machine gun and then REALLY cook you into a burned meat pie.
you know what you should talk to her about is "Sunset Blvd" i hear that is one of her most favorite topics to discuss...

What about Sunset Boulevard poster?
:)
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Or an Andrew Lloyd W. picture might cheer her up
bring her a Sunset poster with Glenn Close's face and the words "Tony Award for Best Actress" on it, that will surely bring a smile to her face.
or, bring your cast album/cd of "the bakers wife".
Yeah, I'd never dare bring up Sunset around Patti.
yeah i know, i would never dare, just being a funny

Wait, I know about Sunset Blvd and ALW, but why is she not so happy looking back on Bakers Wife?
I'm not sure if she is unhappy about Baker's Wife. I know it was a weird experience for all involved, and it flopped on the road, but I doubt she looks back at it with the same hate she has for Sunset.
Pardon my ignorance, but why does she hate Sunset? I don't know the story behind it, and I'm rather curious.

I asked her to sign an Evita Playbill and she was more than gracious, but very rushed. She had just finsihed a little discussion about how I got the CD a week before it was released and forgot that she had to sign autographs for the other side.
The first time I saw Sweeney, someone had the London CD of 'Sunset' and she signed it without question.
i met patty years ago right before the evita movie was about to come out. and i even had the nerve to ask her about it.
patty couldn't have been nicer to me and when i asked her what she thought about madonna doing the part she said, "evita is not only a singing part but also an acting part and that's all i'm going to say."
i also remember her telling me that they offered her to return to the stage in a new production of evita to coincide with the movie. again i had the nerve to say, "you should do it." and she said something like "oh no honey."
i definitely got the sense that she was a little bitter about the whole madonna thing, but patti was such a pro and couldn't have been nicer!!
GuitarGeek: Lupone originated the role of Norma Desmond in Sunset in London. She got mixed reviews. Some thought she wasn't good in the role, many thought she was too young, most notably Frank Rich. She was replaced by Glenn Close for the Broadway production. She sued Andrew Lloyd Webber for breach of contract. She recieved an undisclosed amount (reportedly $1 million).
Oh, I see. Well, I'd probably be bitter about it, too, if I were in her situation...
She signed my Evita poster last May after doing Matters of the Heart and didn't bat an eye. In fact, with the style she uses when she's signing, I doubt she even really sees what she's signing. She held the Sharpie at arm's length and signed anything it came in contact with.
I dare someone to try to get her sign a Broadway Sunset Blvd poster and see if she even bats an eye.
patty couldn't have been nicer to me and when i asked her what she thought about madonna doing the part she said, "evita is not only a singing part but also an acting part and that's all i'm going to say."
How much do I love Patti LuPone?
