Posted: 8/12/08 at 11:52pmOkay, I'm so sorry to be asking this, but why IS she wearing them? I heard the announcement when I saw it and everyone else laughed like they knew what was going on.

See I got a completely different reaction. When I saw it a few weeks ago, they made the announcement that Patti LuPone had injured herself. Seriously, the gay gasp was never more in use in the history of the world than in that very moment. They continued explaining that Miss LuPone would simply be doing the EXACT same performance, just in isotoners (for some strange reason I feel bad even typing 'LuPone' and 'simply' 'EXACT same performance' in the same sententce).
I swear to you, for those few seconds leading up to the full explanation when the entire audience was on the edge of their seats thinking they weren't going to see Patti, I was just laughing my butt off, since I obviously knew (thanks to all of you) what it was, though I have to say I was a bit surprised she was STILL wearing them. But I have to say - other than being a bit odd (for such a renowned thespian to do ANYTHING out of character, especially something as basic as wardrobe does seem strange), it really doesn't effect the performance one way or the other. It's not like Rose is in A Chorus Line (interesting concept, she'd totally take over the show and get her girls to be the leads), dancing isn't super-crucial for the part.
And she's still the best performance (true, her as a performer as well, but I mean in this specific performance as Madame Rose) money can buy eight nights a week guaranteed, isotoners or not.

Posted: 8/13/08 at 12:28amThe Show is GYPSY... It is arguably the greatest musical ever to grace a stage. PLEASE research the show if you care anything about the theatre at all. The actress is TWO TIME TONY AWARD WINNER Patti LuPone. Again do research. She is a living legand.
