Millie - I totally agree with you about Caissie! She was my favorite thing about the tour! such power! Is she playing the role on Broadway now? I thought I heard that.
But Kerry certainly does not ruin the recording! She sounds great. Marissa is another story. Keala or Shannon, or even Shoshana on the recording would have been great!
Frances Ruffelle & the Eponine girl who's on the Complete Symphonic Recording. Awfully sung!
Yeah, Caissie is on Broadway now. I liked her, "But now I've tasted chocolate and I'm never goin' back!"
ruthiefan_felix: The girl who plays Eponine on the Les Mis CSR is Kaho Shimada.
I completely agree with the nightmare otherwise known as Frances Ruffelle. She actually won a Tony for whining through that score? Her acting was nothing special, either. Judy Kuhn should have won that year for playing Cosette. Granted, it's a boring ingenue role, but Judy nailed it (and has golden vocal chords). Lea Salonga was the best Eponine I've seen.
Also agree with Idina/Shoshanna. Shoshanna made me wish that I had her on the recording instead of the "screamer".
Aaron Lazar in LITP. He kicks Matthew Morrison's butt.
Daphne Rubin-Vega and Fredi Walker in RENT... Especially Daphne. In hearing and seeing other Mimi's and Joanne's, I found actresses I enjoyed MUCH more in the roles. Rosario IS Mimi to me, and Tracie made me like Joanne.
And David Bryant as the OBC Marius? Ummm... No. Not at all.

the Eponine girl who's on the Complete Symphonic Recording.
You beat me to that. I HATE her voice. Ma-anne Dionisio ruined that for me because she was so much better.
I'll also agree with Julia Murney. I love Idina sometimes, but I can't really listen to much of the Wicked recording after hearing Julia do it.
Not that there's any one thing that could possibly ruin one of the worst OCR's to begin with but Orfeh was (in her extremely brief stint as Rusty in Footloose)better than any one of the others, yes, even better than Anika "God" Rose and most certainly better than Francis. I love Stacy Francis but besides phoning it in (refer to other thread), all she did was scream during that show and I know she can do better, I saw her in Smokey Joe's and she was great there. Idina Menzel does absolutely nothing for me on the OCR of RENT and I'm confused that you're all bashing DRV. Idina sounds like a different singer on that recording and just about EVERY Maureen since esp Sherie, was better.
I loathe Sarah Jessica Parker's voice on the Mattress OCR.
Even SJP's speaking voice is hideous and annoying.
Yea, I often wonder why she never got a nose job that may have been able to correct that nasle thing she's got going on. Broderick has to be gay to be with her. Then again, I don't know a gay man who would date someone so ugly.

Speaking of the Les Mis Symphonic Recording, who is the Fantine? I'm listening to clips on iTunes and I haven't decided if I like her or not, she sounds old for Fantine.
Yero: That would be Debbie Byrne. I don't like her voice either. She sounds too operatic for my taste.

Mine is Wicked also.
I absolutely adore both Idina and Kristin (and I still love the OBCR) -- but, after seeing/hearing Megan Hilty and Shoshana Bean -- I really with those two were on the recording instead!

I have to agree with ruprecht. I hate SJP's voice and I wish that she would fall off the face of the earth every time I hear the recording of the 1996 Once Upon a Matress. That is one of my favorite shows of all time (Carol Burnett was hilarious) and SJP should be prosecuted for the crime she comitted by subjecting everyone's ears to that. I don't mind her nose as much as that wart the sticks out of her face. It needs a zipcode for itself.

About Randy Graff on the Les Mis OCR, I thought her IDAD was good though not outstanding. Also, I enjoyed her "Come to Me" until the very end(her "wake" is hard on the ears), though I have read that it did work well for her on stage.
Back to Frances Ruefelle, sure she did win the Tony however I think the role of Eponine is such a great role, with wonderful songs, a compelling story, and the actress can give her a lot of depth if she wanted too, that any great Eponine since then could have won the Tony.
Larry Kert: Company
Patti Lupone: Anything Goes
I agree that SJP should NEVER sing. I think she lost her GAP campain soon after that ridiculous attempt to "show off" her voice in that one commercial and rightly so. Although mejust, I wouldn't bet the farm that her honker hasn't been at least tweaked a bit. I also think the entire OCR of RENT is abysmal. Some of the most poorly laid down vocals ever. The only one who doesn't offend, is Jesse.

Well, to be fair, even the OBC of RENT was unhappy with how the album came out.
Colm Wilconson (sp?) on the Les Mis OCR. I know he is the definitive Jean Valjean, but that Scottish accent is just too much to bear. The man sounds like he's singing with marbles in his mouth.
tari kelly in lsoh (revival)
jennifer waldman in wicked (although theres not much of nessa on the recording)
brent barrett, paige davis (or any other roxie for that matter) and jennifer holliday in chicago
I prefer Stephanie Block to Idina on the recording and in the part of Elphaba. I've seen Idina, Eden, Stephanie and Julia and out of the four, Stephanie's voice and performance was far superior. I wish I had seen Stephanie as my first Elphie instead of Idina.
DAPHNE RUBIN-VEGA IN RENT.
After hearing/seeing Julia Murney in the AFA Benefit Concert of Chess.....I cannot listen to the OBCR....she just nails the songs so amazingly...the OBCR just lacks the passion and enthusiasm that the benefit concert cast had.
Also, even though I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Amy Spanger, I much, much prefer Tami Tappan Damiano in Tick, Tick..BOOM to hers....I listen to the OOBCR of ttB, and "Come To Your Senses" with Amy just isn't the same since seeing it with Tami.
