Colm Wilkinson is Irish. But I don't think the fact that he sounds weird is a function of his nationality anyway.

I thought that Eden Espionsa had a better voice than Idina(I've only heard her on the cast album and Tony performance).
Charlotte D'Ambrosio(I'm sorry if I spelt her last name wrong) was better than Ann Reiking in Chicago. I can't really stand Ann's voice.
I'm not really sure what her name is but she was Johanna in the dvd of Sweeney Todd the one with Hearn and Lansbury. I prefer Lauren Molina over her any day, I really couldn't listen to her sing, and I like Manoel Felciano over the Tobias in the dvd(I forgot he's name as well).
I really liked Hunter Foster as Leo Bloom more than Matthew Broderick.

"That's our song. Oh What A Night, Ces Soirees-La, French. Number one in Paris, 2000, ten weeks. Not bad for a song from thirty years ago."
-Jersey Boys
My personal choices:
1. Lea Salonga as Eponine...better than the OCR Eponine.
2. Will Chase as Chris...better than the CSR Chris (CSR Chris is too whiny) but the OCR was not bad.
3. Leo Valdez as the Engineer....better than the OCR Engineer.
4. Lea Salonga as Kim....better than the CSR Kim.
5. Charles Azulay as Thuy....better than the OCR & OBC.
6. Mika Nishida as Gigi...better than OCR Gigi.
7. Broadway Revival Cast of Flower Drum Song...better than Original Recording and Film Version.

Musicaltheater1, Charles Azulay is Thuy on the "Miss Saigon" CSR. It sounds like you did see Charles as Thuy, right? I think he is great on the CD, especially during "Kim's Nightmare."

I liked Rachel York in DRS better than Sherrie Rene Scott, personally.
Mandy in the OCR of Sunday in the Park.

After seeing Neil Patrick Harris in Rent, it was very hard for me to go back and listen to the whiny Anthony Rapp on the OBC recording.
Shannon Durig over Marissa in Hairspray
Barrett Foa over John in Avenue Q
Megan Hilty, Shoshana Bean and Saycon Sengbloh over Kristin and Idina in Wicked
Elaine Paige over Glenn Close and Patti LuPone in Sunset Blvd
Joanna Riding and Laura Michelle Kelly over Martine McCutcheon in My Fair Lady

I'll have to add the original Mamma Mia! recording. I couldn't stomach the girl who plays Sophie after seeing the show. It's still really hard for me to listen to it because of her grating, nasal voice, and I didn't even notice how bad it was before saw it!
Colle, you're right...I meant to say, Charles was better than OCR and OBC, not CSR. Let me correct that. Thanks.
This is a little different...I like Jesse L. Martin's voice on the RENT soundtrack so much better than the OCR that I can't listen to him singing on the OCR anymore...even though it's the same guy.
I actually watched a community theatre production of City of Angels, and the voices on that CD just don't sound as fantastic as these group of teenagers who played it.
Personally, I think that Steve Blanchard is a far better Beast than Terrence Mann. I did like Terrence in the role, but I really think that Steve's performance is more powerful and moving.
I wish Jon Pryce did the DRS cast recording.
Maybe Lucie Arnaz too, because I thought Joanna was just so boring!

I prefer almost everyone I've ever seen live in Rent to the OBC. Give me Cary Shields over Adam Pascal any day.
As for Hairspray - I prefer Shoshana's Tracy. Once I heard her version, there was no way I could go back to listen to the OBCR. Girl is fierce.
After hearing Anthony Warlow in "The Secret Garden," I can't even stand to listen to Mandy Patinkin.
Daphne's an amazing actress, but she ruined the RENT recording for me...I prefer Rosario's voice over Daphne's when it comes to RENT.

Yeah, after listening to Mandy Patinkin, I can't even stand to listen to Mandy Patinkin.

Norbert Butz on The Last 5 Years
Charlotte D'Amboise on the ACL revival cd. I would have rather them hire the 63 year old Donna McKechnie and put her voice on another cd instead of having to skip over what is typically a fantastic song!
Carolee Carmello SLAUGHTERED Christine Andreas in Scarlet Pimpernel. She was vocally and physically stunning.
Lisa Brescia was the most phenominal Amneris, even though I did enjoy Scott, Lisa was just perfect.
Julia Murney was better at the Actor's Benefit Concert of Chess than any other Florence I have seen/heard.
Joanna Ampil was the best Fantine, beating out both Randy and Ruthie.

Daniel Marcus as Count Fosco (u/s) has made Michael Crawford obsolete.
I can't listen to anyone but Michael Ball sing Empty Chairs At Empty Tables.
I agree with Julia & the Chess recording. But I also like Adam & Raul in their parts as well.
I do not prefer Rosario over Daphne, I prefer neither. I really wish I knew who played that part when I saw it in 99. She rocked. In another movie/play comparison, I did really like Tracy's Joanne.
From what I have seen & heard (never saw it in person) I really like Megan as Glinde in Wicked.
out of topic:
speaking of Christine Andreas, I have her on two CD's. Scarlet Pimpernel and Field s Of Ambrosia (don't ask...),
and she's just plain boring. Her voice grates my nerves and heracting is cringe-worthy. (plus, most wildhorn ballads are utter sleeping pills down the throat)
that was my rant.
I can't listen to Idina in Wicked...uggh. I wish Eden was on that cd. lol.
