Finally listened to this, and wow, you guys weren't kidding about the lyrics. Some of them are downright abysmal. The music is cool and upbeat, but a lot of it reminds me of Legally Blonde, which I think was a fun musical with really catchy music. I'd still see this show though.

Totally agree with this. The cast is incredibly talented, but the material is a disappointment. Part of the problem is that a lot of these songs depend on sight gags and don't really work as audio recordings without the visuals, but I also think a lot of them don't really work, period. The lyrics are cliche and often just... bad. In my opinion, the show is nowhere near as edgy or as clever as it thinks it is, and the lyrics are no exception.

I am loving this album. Its gonna be a gulity pleasure of mine. However the lyrics are horrible. I mean “my name is regina george and i am a massive deal” and “if you treat me bad, ill say your bad” and the worse was in revenge party, when the song has cake twice in the same line.

I like the actual music itself, but some of the lyrics are just... why?? The Apex Predator lyrics just don't match the music IMHO. I think I would rank the recordings of musicals people have mentioned above as 1) Heathers 2) Legally Blonde and 3) Mean Girls. It just is not as fun or melodic as the others.

I just wish they could have used the The Heathers score with The Mean Girls brand and they'd have a mega hit. But, Apex Predator just seems odd? Like wtf. I like the opening music, it sounds very ominous and not what I was expecting, but it's cool. But I found it a chore to get through the recording. I'll just wait until I see it.

It’s interesting to me that, in my opinion, the two people on the writing team that are making their Broadway debuts aren’t the ones who have contributed the worst element. Richmond’s music isn’t perfect, but it’s serviceable and Fey’s book is really, really funny. But Benjamin’s lyrics are frankly a mess in some places. And she has Broadway experience before this that wasn’t nearly as bad!
