Thanks for sharing this! I was excited to listen, but it had been so long since I had seen the show (first preview), I had forgotten how lackluster the music is. It feels like the show has an identity crisis not knowing what era it's in. It doesn't sound fresh. Sigh.

My favorite song from the show is Id Rather Be Me hands down, it actually has great lyrics and good tune. Everything else is just eh, worse the heathers, maybe a LITTLE better then legally blonde.

I enjoyed Legally Blonde much more than this. I agree the best song is “I’d Rather Be Me.” I’ll never understand what’s so entertaining about kids being mean to each other.

I will love and defend this score until the day I die.

Damien, Karen and Janice's songs were the highlights in the theater. Janice still works on the album but "Sexy" and "Where do you belong?" got a lot of their humor from the costumes and staging.

I appreciate Regina's numbers more on the album. I couldn't make out the lyrics over the reverb and character voice in the theater.

Cady and Aaron are still dull though I see what they're trying to go for with numbers like "More" and "Do This Thing."

Agreed, I do love Sexy, I think its pretty funny when you see it in person. Kate Rockwell is fantastic.

In all honesty these are the songs I can actually remember: Apex Predator, Sexy, Revenge Party, Whos House is this (Hate the song, but the tune is easy to remember), World Burn, Id rather be me, and Do this thing.

But we really shouldnt be going too crazy when critiquing the music, its no bands visit. this is mean girls.

No Band's Visit but it's easy to compare to Heathers and Legally Blonde . As I mentioned in another thread those scores had clunkers but gave their leading ladies some great songs. In Mean Girls the leading ladies bland material unbalances the show.

No one expects it to be. But it should be fun, catchy, and clever. There are simply too many throwaway songs with uninteresting lyrics and forgettable melodies.

It really stands out on recording how awful these lyrics are. Ya'll are praising I'd Rather Be Me, but there are some bad lyrics in that song like "if you treat me bad, I'll say your bad." Apex Predator and Revenge Party are fun, though.

I guess I understand why (maybe), but it also sounds like they're singing much quieter than in the show. Like they aren't fully belting what they normally do? Overall, the sound is a little off. I do think the score is more enjoyable live (especially when not under close scrutiny). Interestingly, I think the lyrics are the weak link here. The music is fine, nothing too special but nothing too painful, but some of the lyrics are pure laziness.

Legally Blonde is far more better. I feel the cast album is terrible and not going to be part of my cast albums listening cycle.

Also, why did they censor so much? I'm pretty sure they even changed a part where Cady normally says "Damn it?" I find it so ridiculous. Does it have something to do with Atlantic Records?

Overall, I'm a fan of the show, but disappointed in the album.

I actually like this better than Legally Blonde, though I haven't seen it live yet. I agree that Janis and Damien's songs are most definitely the best.

Lyrics are occasionally yiiiiiiikes - the chihuahua one in particular. But I do think there are some tiny gems - "This is modern feminism talkin'/I expect to run the world in shoes I cannot walk in!"

After hearing all the complaints about the score on here, I was expecting this to be awful. I think it's great, with a few standout numbers. I think LEGALLY BLONDE actually a fantastic score, but Elle is naturally lends herself to song more than Cady. The Cady songs are the ones that aren't memorable. Luckily Louderman, Henson, Weed, Rockwell & Park have great material and sound amazing.

Finally listened to this, and wow, you guys weren't kidding about the lyrics. Some of them are downright abysmal. The music is cool and upbeat, but a lot of it reminds me of Legally Blonde, which I think was a fun musical with really catchy music. I'd still see this show though.
