So if the point is moot then why not move it and snag a few Tony's?

Is the possibility of a few Tonys enough to justify sinking themselves $10 million in the hole?

10 million? SA was originally financed at 5 mil and there were nearly three times as many performers to pay in that show.

And the point isn't moot because there would be practically no way for them to pay the bills Off-Broadway, but there would be a chance for them to pay the bills on Broadway.

Look at In the Heights. Off-Broadway, it was on TDF and TKTS it's entire run (from day one), played to half-empty houses and lost thousands every week. In it's first week on Broadway, it was at 82.7% attendance and made a couple of hundred thousand more than it was ever able to do in a week Off-Broadway.

Broadway musicals simply attract a lot more people simply because they are on Broadway. The audience for Broadway shows is many times more than it is for Off-Broadway. Although N2N would have higher running costs on Broadway than off, it would have a vastly larger market to draw people from. And relatively speaking, even with those higher running costs, N2N would be a prohibitively expensive to run Off-Broadway show, but a dirt cheap to run Broadway show. The cast size is 33% smaller than Xanadu and, in case you haven't noticed, Xanadu has been running for months with grosses generally in the 200-300k range.

N2N has generated passionate word of mouth Off-Broadway and would be certain to generate even more if it were to be exposed to the much larger Broadway market. I think that word of mouth and a well chosen number on the Tony awards could give it a good chance of making at least those numbers. Put it in a small, intimate (and low rent for Broadway) theatre and I think it would have a good chance of making its weekly nut and possibly even make its original investment back (and then some).

Off-Broadway? Not a chance.
