It did say possibly next season. In a way I think that might be better ~ so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle with everything coming in now and shortly. Cousre I would love for it to be with the current cast.
At least as of the other night they're still talking a recording, but nothing's finalized yet.

Possibly next season
But it gets more attention to make it look like it's not going at all, right?

Nor is it "no."

Didn't say it did mean definitely.
But possibly also doesn't mean definitely not.

Posted: 2/21/08 at 3:07pmI think it's a wise move. Some reviewers had reservations about the book and by postponing, further work can be done to tweak it. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of it. I would hope that they wouldn't take on a heavyweight like Billy Elliot early in the season -- it might get lost in the crowd. Maybe when the winter thaw sets in next season (say, late February or early March).

ok... I'm still holding onto hope that there's a possibility for next season.
I refuse to accept that it may not have any kind of life beyond this production. If I have to wait till 2009, so be it (plus, hey, maybe they'll find a way to make it even BETTER! They seem to have knack for that seeing as how NtN is a million times stronger than Feeling Electric had been). But if I have to wait till NEVER? That's not okay with me. Too much hard work has gone into this show, and it's too good not to at least be given a chance.
Really though, if they take it and work on it more for 2009, and make it the best friggin show it can POSSIBLY be, that's okay with me! All I require is that they keep the same cast as currently. :) (or if Anthony wants to jump back on board as Dr. Madden, I'm cool with that haha. But everyone else must stay)

I'm not really surprised necessarily, but that doesn't mean I'm not disappointed. I really feel like the show can (and DOES) have an audience, and I think the fact that they made it a point to say that it's not transfering right NOW proves that it's not just a bum show that no one thinks could possibly make it.
So no, I don't think it was that wild of us fans to HOPE for a transfer. And I think that eventually it could hopefully still happen. But no, it wasn't a "done deal" type situation either, so I'm not all that surprised. Just dissappointed.

And Lin-Manuel Miranda lets out a sigh of relief.

So, I'm sure, does Patti LuPone.

Posted: 2/21/08 at 5:56pmI'm suprised that something like "High Fidelity" could get on Broadway, but yet "Next To Normal" can't. You'd think that out of the two Tom Kitt shows, that the better choice would be N2N. I can totally see it working on Broadway. It just would need to be tweaked - staging wise & book wise - so I think waiting is a better option.

The concepts that underlie High Fidelity and Next to Normal are vastly different despite both involving Tom Kitt and a rock-based score. For one, the former is based on recognizable source material. The latter is original and deals with uncomfortable and challenging social issues. High Fidelity (provided it was good...which well, we know it failed and many would argue it was not good) had potential to get a mainstream audience at least in theory. Next to Normal is more challenging and due to the subject matter, is less likely to get many, many people into the seats on concept alone.
We have to remember Second Stage is a small subscription theatre.
I never had any expectations it would transfer. It would be great if it does at some point and they have opportunity to improve the show in some areas- even if it is almost great, (or at least very good) there is always room for improvement. I am glad we got the opportunity to see it- some of us multiple times.

Posted: 2/21/08 at 7:16pmUnderstandable, but look at all the other shows that were "too small" or "too offbeat" who have successful mainstream runs. It just sees like the obvious choice. Maybe the producers can't tell a good show from a bad show.

Posted: 2/21/08 at 7:24pmI'd rather it have an open run Off-Broadway as opposed to a Broadway run. Clearly not a lot of people feel this way.

I blame Patti Lupone. She's ont he board at 2ST. This is clearly her fault as she feels threatened by Alice Ripley.
DAMN YOU PATTI LUPONE.
DAMN YOU.

Wow, are you serious? Yeah, because she single handedly decides...
Leave it to you to take this in stride, though!

its a joke you dumbass
jesus are you really that stupid?

Posted: 2/21/08 at 7:43pmLet's just say I was a little concerned. I wouldn't put it past you to be completely and totally serious a comment like that. I like believing that you WOULD think that makes ME stupid, as opposed to being a reflection on your track record for rationality.
