Who knew one little word could open such debate!!?? I feel so American right now. (oops! Isn't it bad in Cyberland to say you are American?)
I would not want to get anyone associated with this site in trouble. Perhaps discussing the term bootleg (oops I said the word)shouldn't be a bad thing, only the sale of them online should be.
That said, and forgive me if I am "over reacting", but the outright HATE MAIL I've gotten should be what is illegal, and in fact is.
To those of you who sent me mean notes (especially the guy who threatened to find my home and beat me with the magnet he is going to use to erase my ALLEGED bootlegs) I have forwarded them all to the webmaster. NOW GET OFF MY BACK.
To those of you who have nicely corrected me and shared opinions not threats, you have my respect.
By the way... is the "B" word to be whispered like the "n" word or the "f" word? Whispering or not saying them doesn't make bootlegs, racism or sexuality go away.
Who knew one little word could open such debate!!??
Everyone who's posted here before AND paid attention?
The issue isn't whether not mentioning bootlegs will make them go away. The issue is that the rules laid out here ask not to mention them, and it's a clear violation if one does.
That's all.
Minus the flailing.

Thanks for the measured response!
Um, I just joined this on Friday, and I read the Terms of Service. I missed the part about using certain words. Can we say illegally gotten recordings?
Again using the words shouldn't cause a problem... promoting/selling them should be. For example, racism is a terrible thing, right? But it should be discussed (i.e: racism as a theme in The Color Purple, Wicked, and Avenue Q), not condoned or used (i.e. making a comment about Ben Vereen as a black Wizard, etc.). I'm pretty sure acknowledging the existence of you-know-what isn't going to get the nice people at Broadwayworld.com in trouble. I bet having people openly selling them would, and it should. That really is my only point.
(I only flailed a little)
First off, welcome to Broadway World. I hope that the people who were rude and threatening to you in PMs don't deter you from enjoying the site.
That being said, I think you are making this a much larger issue that it needs to be. Comparing bootlegs to racism and bigotry is a stretch at best and even if it were accurate it'd still be frivolous and irrelevant. I am sure that racist or bigoted remarks would also be edited and ruled a violation by the owners of BWW.
The bottom line is that this is a privately owned site. The owners of the site are free to make the guidelines and are free to require that you adhere to them. The moderators of the site have said countless times in the past that talks of bootlegs, illegal recording or any other method in which you choose to describe them isn't something that they allow on this site. Respect that and move on.
Posting here isn't a right, it's a privilege. In order to keep that privilege, we have to honor the requests of the people who dedicate an extreme amount of their personal time to keep this site running so that we can all have a place to waste our time - even if we disagree with said requests.
If you still feel the need to debate this, I encourage you to PM one of the moderators (Rob, Jose, or Craig) to discuss it in private. The topic of this thread is starting a petition for an In My Life cast recording and it would be great to get back to that extremely important and potentially life turning on a dime crusade.

As far as souvenirs, all they had when we went was a hat & T shirt but no one was even selling them so it was a moot point

so i guess its official that theres not gonna be a cast recording unless we all sign this petition huh?
"I need to publicly apologize for my comment regarding bootlegs, I guess. What I meant was, since the show was folding so soon, a recording seems unlikely and therefore would only be represented by the multitude of bootlegs that there must be out there. (In fact, you'd be shocked, those of you in your smart little ivory towers, at how many offers of bootlegs I've gotten... 5 or 6 times as many of the evil toned little messages I've gotten about how wrong it is to bootleg.) BUT! I'm sorry."
Ok, you have attempted to apologize but then showed you insincerity by adding "I guess". Personally, and maybe someone will back me up on this one if they agree, I don't care how many bootleg offers you have received since you posted. It just goes to show...you're not sorry. How could you be if you are continuing to seek bootlegs over PM? All you are doing is back pedaling because someone called you on your error.
You want to see and support the show? Seems like you're a fan of so why don't you try to support it legally and buy a ticket to see it?
"I'm pretty sure acknowledging the existence of you-know-what isn't going to get the nice people at Broadwayworld.com in trouble"
Acknowledging is fine...but asking for a bootleg on this site is not. And the fact that you have had an attitude and put up your defenses in the few posts I have read on this thread alone...people are going to point out when you are doing something wrong in order to preserve the integrity of this board. It's not to be mean, it's just because they have respect for the board.
"Um, I just joined this on Friday, and I read the Terms of Service. I missed the part about using certain words. Can we say illegally gotten recordings?"
"Illegally gotten recordings"? Between that and your punctuation, you know...I'm not even going to go there. It's too easy.
I just saw In My Life today and I have to say that I just can't STOP THINKING ABOUT IT. Like many have said before it is so bad it is good. I don't think I have read anything about technical problems but there was about a 10 min. intermission today. The apartment started backing up and the wall wasn't open and so they had to take a break and fix the wall and the apartment. All I have to say is that this show NEEDS a cast recording!
I love deleted replies. They're so cryptic!

I love lemons.
I love skeletons.
I love Dr. Pepper.
I love "In My Life."
I was actually posting on another thread and somehow it ended up on this one. I am not sure how that happened, but that is why I deleted it. No mystery. Now go sign the petition before I come over there and sing When She Danced in my tutu.

How about I perform Secrets for y'all.
I've never seen In My Life. I've barely even HEARD In My Life because my CD arrived cracked and the site crashes my computer.
But, you know, I did like Michael Halling a lot in Les Miz, so....
Get back in your closet!

Lizzie - Halling is the only part of the show that sucks. He doesn't suck. His part does.
It's very awkward - even for IML.
Awww, too bad. Did/has he ever go(ne) on as J.T.?
Broadway Legend Joined: 12/8/04
I don't think so.
He doesn't strike me as a J.T. at all though.
Same here. And I only say that because it hurts my brain to imagine him doing the same role as Chris Hanke.

Does that mean Hanke is bad? Or that they are too different?
Chris was great in the role - vocally, and with the acting...
Oh, that they're different. From just my limited experience of seeing Halling only as Enjolras and Hanke only as Tom Sawyer. :)

Ah yes. I can't see Halling as Enjolras, either...
That's interesting. Because he was really, REALLY good. I mean, I'd follow him to the barricades or even to Starbucks. :)
Although when I first saw him, my thought was, "He looks like just about every other generic replacement Enjolras in the early '90s." And it was an off-night, but after that, I saw him several more times and I really enjoyed him. One of those performers who made each show a little different. I had no idea he was leaving, and it turns out I saw his final perf in Les Miz.

I really like Christopher MArk Peterson - though I was sad to see him as Grantaire on the tour.
I really, really DISLIKED Christopher Mark Peterson as Enjolras and I wish I'd seen him as Grantaire. I heard from a few people he was better as Grantaire.
