Phantom Question

Could someone tell me if the NYC production is the original or the new version of Phantom?

Phantom Question

I have another question... I saw the show last night. Who is currently playing the Phantom? James Barbour was listed on the call board, and there is a picture of him in costume in the playbill, however, the Playbill lists two different Phantoms... Does anyone know who went on last night and/or who the current Phantom is?

Phantom Question

Wouldn't they have to make an announcement or hand out an insert if someone else played the role?  (Unless the program lists someone else playing the roles, say, at Sunday matinees, or whatever.)

Phantom Question

I'm 99% sure it's still James Barbour. I think sometimes when one of the actors has a scheduled day off they reprint the playbills and include which actor will be in for them that week..for example I have a Phantom pride playbill from when Norm Lewis was the Phantom, but Laird Mackintosh had a scheduled day to fill in for him that week, so it had both his and Norm's names listed as the Phantom but with Laird's it said (Mon. Performance) in parentheses.

ETA; I just checked twitter and Laird Mackintosh was on as the Phantom last night (11/13)

Phantom Question

Laird Mackintosh (who usually plays Producer Monsieur Andre) has been on as the Phantom all week. He announces when he will play the Phantom on his Twitter/Instagram account.

"Mostly, I loved the size of these people's emotions. Nobody has emotions this size anymore. Outsized emotions. Operatic emotions. Kushemski and Vanda are like Tristan and Isolde, they're Paolo and Francesca. Nobody's in total thrall like this anymore. Nobody's overcome by passion like this, or goes through this kind of rage." Phantom Question

On 11/8, Laird tweeted he would be on from 11/9 through 11/15.  Sounds like Barbour may be on vacation.  If true, it would have been nice had the vacation been announced previously.  I had purchased good seats a couple weeks ago and had agreed to go only because of the expectation James Barbour would be on.  Not knowing about the absence, I went this past Thursday and was pretty disappointed.  Laird was good, but not so much that my disappointment faded.

If you are attending a show to see a specific actor, I recommend calling the box office in advance to ensure that the actor does not have any scheduled days off in the time frame you are planning on attending. They should be privy to that information and will be happy to let you know.

Phantom Question

The Majestic box office is normally pretty clueless about cast members being on vacation, Unless your a big name in a particular production, most box offices don't keep running tabs on vacations or scheduled days off on cast members. Lately in Phantom if in actor is out for more than one performance its already printed in the Playbill. Nothing is more heartbreaking than opening a playbill and those tiny pieces of white paper fall out.

Well, sometimes it's a relief!

Well, sometimes it's a relief!

Especially the last time I saw Phantom a few weeks ago I saw the full Phantom cast and for a select few most of them seemed like they all needed vacations, very stale performances from most of the prinicples of my FAVORITE Broadway show.

Phantom Question

How's Julia Udine doing? I caught her quite a while back and she was one of my favorite Christines (of very many).

Phantom Question

Julia is just ok in my books, Kaley is much better, I haven't got a chance to see the new Christine Alt. yet.

Phantom Question

This may have been posted before, but what is the performance schedule for the Christines? I've wanted to go back to Phantom, but I want to make sure that I go when Julia is performing and not Rachel the Christine alternate (even though she's good as well).

Phantom Question

Chris Mann (the Phantom on tour) announced his vacation schedule on his Web site. One thing that I suspect about the Broadway production is that, when the show advertises heavy discounts, one or both of the leads will be out. I had seen Hugh Panaro four times and was underwhelmed for all the performances except the 25th anniversary. I went again during one of their sale price promotions and saw Greg Mills, who was covering the role. He was fantastic! During the last week of the tour's appearance in Philadelphia, the then-Phantom, Cooper Grodin, was out, and I saw the cover, Allan Somebody (whose last name I've forgotten). He was fantastic, too. I've never managed to see Julia Udine on tour or on Broadway, but I think Kaley Ann Voorhees, who was playing the role that night, was superb. That having been said, I'd be disappointed if I didn't get to see James Barbour. His MOTN gives me shivers -- the good kind!

Audrey, the Phantom Phanatic, who nonetheless would rather be Jean Valjean, who knew how to make lemonade out of lemons.

Phantom Question

shout outs for John Owen Jones and Anthony Crivellos phantoms...my two favorites

and sierra boggess...her christine is NOT to be missed live adn thankfully captured on the 25th anniv dvd.

i was sooo dissapointed by the tour I left at intermission, and i REALLY like POTO....

I try to be philosophical about understudy surprises in my playbill and often very positively surprised by understudy performances.

It is harder when you are coming to see one specific actor.

The tough one for me was missing idina menzel in IF/Then in NYC and then voila!

Idina comes to SF and I see her here so it worked out.

Phantom Question

Anthony Crivello? Who by the end of the Vegas run was doing a Gerard Butler impression and doing such weird things with his face that he was looking like a South Park Canadian?
