Any news of casting for this production of Phantom? Isn't it supposed to be double cast?

I know someone working on the show.... If you're a huge fan of the show don't go see it. They are taking a 2 and a half hour show and turning it into an hour and forty-five minutes. Tragic. Tragic I tell you.

Ya, something about hacking an hour out of one of the most successful shows in Broadway history just doesn't seem quite right.

Are they cutting it down so they can fit a 10 pm show in as well? And what are they cutting out?

Ben Hale will understudy Raoul. He's the only one publicly named so far, it seems.

QMAN, who knows why these lunatics are cutting it. More shows is probably the reason though.

No official word on what's out, but I have a feeling that Il Muto is as good as gone, the Hannibal scene will get hacked, Notes 1&2 will get trimmed, the rooftop scene will basically just be AIAOY, no Don Juan rehersal scene, and a shortened Don Juan performance will make up for the missing hour.

Well, has anyone heard who might be considered for Christine and Raoul at this point? . . . I read on here that Jennifer Hope Wills was and someone else a while back, before they had the most recent round of auditions, but haven't heard about anyone new since. Any ideas?

Jennifer Hope Wills was up for the role, but will not be playing Christine in that production. After reading that they are cutting the show for time, I'm just as glad she didn't get the part. She deserves better.

Cutting an hour out of POTO, or basically metaphysically raping it of substance, should be a federal felony.

Well, like a line from Sunset Boulevard says: "It could use a few cuts." The Phantom of the Opera is way too long, cutting out an hour would do it some good.

blanche - how can you be certain that JHW isn't still in the running. . . if NOBODY else has been mentioned yet? Seems like it could still go to her, doesn't it?

JHW and another woman were brought in to sing for ALW himself and he rejected both of them. One of the reasons was them being too old for the youthful Christine they want. They have since held open calls for Christine in hopes of finding a fresh face.

I have to Agree! It gets way too long. I've given it multiple chances and it has always failed to keep my attention, which I've always chalked up to the way it drags in multiple sections.

I'm not so sure I agree with this trend in casting fresh young kids right out of school. Sure they have a exciting vitality, but they can't begin to compare with those that have the experience under their belts...for my money I want to see someone who has worked hard and has built upon a solid experience base. Let those kids get some experience and pay their dues and then come to Broadway...the current "Wicked" cast (especially in the ensemble) is a case and point.

I agree, it would be better if those roles weren't cast with kids straight out of college, but at the same time, fresh faces would be nice. So, I guess I'm glad ALW was willing to have open calls and see people that don't have broadway credits. . .

1) About the double casting... supposedly only the roles of The Phantom, Raoul, and Christine will be double cast.

2) What is up with the antimosity for Jennifer Hope Wills these days?! She is so great and deserves to get something good. She was a finalist at the POTO Vegas audition and didn't get the part. She was a finalist to replace Kelli in LITP and didn't get the part. I hope she finds something soon, because she is an extremely talented woman.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

somethingwicked - do you mean antimosity for JHW in this post? Cause i don't think there IS any. . . ? Just trying to find out who IS going to be Christine and Raoul, if she is no longer up for it.

No. I mean animosity for her in the industry.
