I'm honestly flabbergasted at some of the things going on on this board. Some of the questions - every lead role has an understudy. On top of that, minus the managers, each role is double cast. (I guess that was kind of already answered).
Andrew Lloyd Webber did not buy out any show nor did he come and see it.

As am I! There is one board on another site where people are being pretty rude about our production. Honestly, how can you judge a show without seeing it? There has been a TON of talk about our press photo! Emily Leonard (who is WONDERFUL) is one of our two Christines and is wearing an AWESOME original costume and wig, Raoul is fully costumed. The Phantom has come under completely insane scrutiny. No, that isn't the "real" mask. No, that's not the "final" costume. At the same time, the Phantom is pretty much dressed in a Tux the whole time, no? Well...he's in a tux. What did people expect? A pink spandex unitard and sparkly rollerskates? Our Phantom's truly got star treatment. They had prosthetics custom made to fix their faces for the "reveal", 2 wigs custom made, as well as masks that were molded to fit their faces. The phantom in the photo is wearing a pretty standard "Phantom Mask"...because a Press photo needed to be taken! I think our ENTIRE production has turned out wonderfully, and our cast is healthy and doing superbly, I haven't had to go on for one guy that I swing! I feel like our audiences have really enjoyed the fruits of everyone's incredibly dedicated labor, and I really wish people would stop being so rude and assuming about a production that most of them haven't and won't see. The whole point of 6 schools being given the chance to perform this show was to see if a production could be staged in a different setting, with a different budget, and a different cast, and I feel B-W has done a great job with the whole thing. I'm sure the other 5 schools given this honor will do amazingly as well.
I was mistaken. There are photos of one of the casts here - http://www.bw.edu/news/phantom/photos/
It seems very weird that BW got this show. They have a good theater program but it isn't one of the best or anything...
I wonder if anyone back home saw it, if so I will have them review it so we can get an unbiased review!
Actually BW's music theatre program is one of the best in the nation...

^ Oh please...
I think I would have just skipped the horse if an on-stage handler was going to be required. (There seems to be a person draped in dark clothes leading it...)
And also, the Phantom looks more like a werewolf. Or maybe it's just me...
Not that impressed by the pictures. A horse? I don't think that's very realistic for theaters, if the goal is to make Phantom more accessible for theaters to produce.
The sets were fairly simple. What was incredible was the lighting design. The photos don't do justice to the lighting.

HAHA that is a funny one. I saw a couple VERY bad shows with very little talent in them growing up there. It may be the best in the AREA...but it is beating Cleveland State, John Carroll, and Case Western Reserve...oh wait Oberlin is right there too. So it isn't even the best in the area.
I love how people like to make their school sound so much better than it really is
well...think what you want, but when the Princeton Review ranks the music theatre program as one of the top in the country I'd certainly like to think they know what they're talking about.
To be a "phan" for a moment lets quote the show
"Those who speak of what they know find too late that prudent silence is wise."
See you on Broadway!

I'm not associated with Baldwin Wallace, but I've seen some shows there in the past couple of years that are excellent. I am VERY impressed with their program and the talent there. They ARE considered one of the best MT programs in the nation. Backstage Magazine recognized them as one of the top 10 in the nation, and that was a couple of years ago. The program has only gotten stronger since then, and I know several NY casting directors who recommend this program and consider their graduates to be, on the whole, a talented group who is well-prepared to make it in the business.

A fifth school is Carroll High School in Southlake, TX. Carroll just completed its first weekend of three performances, sold out at about 1100 tickets each. They complete the run with another three performances this weekend.
Many of the songs are vocally demanding; I thought these high school students did an excellent job of singing them. The production values were very impressive too, for a high school production.
