OH...I saw the show a few weeks back in Atlanta...and Gary Maur was AMAZING as Phantom....and when everyone found out that our Understudy that night would be JOHN CUDIA...everyone in the theatre..SCREAMED...oh yeah ...I was super excited when he Raul that night...and he did AWESOME. Gary's wife plays Christine sometimes.
The TOUR of this show is something not to be missed.

Marie Danvers typically plays Christine, and John Cudia plays Raoul. When I went, I saw Elizabeth Southard, Gary Mauer's wife, as Christine, and was very impressed by her. I went on a Sunday night, so I'm assuming Elizabeth does certain Sundays, maybe certain weekends, but I could be completely wrong. Gary is fantastic as the Phantom, very passionate, as is John, who plays Raoul almost boyishly, which definitely makes the character more likeable.
Enough rambling from me...enjoy the show!

Posted: 11/1/05 at 11:51pmWhat do you mean "certain sundays or weekends"? The role of Christine is only played six performances a week for the principal, and two shows per week by the alternate. I believe Beth's normal schedule is that she Wednesday eves. and Sat. matinees. Usually when the principal is out the alternate covers the role, and vice-versa.

Posted: 11/2/05 at 5:58amI <3 NY said it right, They got HURRICANED here in Florida and with the week long wait on most power sources, They left town asap. Of course, The airports weren't open till last Thursday so they too had to endure hotel rooms with either cold water or no water, no electricity and - it was just awful! If any of you are going and desire to strike up a good chat with any of the cast at the stage door, Just ask about being trapped in Fort Lauderdale, Florida - I'm sure they all have some great stories! I hear they are working on re-booking this engagement though, we shall see what we shall see!

Posted: 11/2/05 at 3:31pmGary is the only thing good in the tour when it came to Boston. I hated it so much. Gary had an amazing voice. Peter Lockyer, Raoul understudy, whom I perfered to Tim Gleason [they both sang at the Red Sox game, Tim sang "O Canada" while Peter sang our national anthem] was good too.

Posted: 11/2/05 at 4:23pmI saw Gary on tour. I really liked his Phantom. He's good and creepy, but you do feel for him throughout the entire show - he really makes you root for Phantom. He's wonderful. I also saw Elizabeth (his wife) as Christine. She was great too. Have fun!

John Cudia is back on the tour now as Raoul, I believe?!? John definitely creates much more of an audience approachable Raoul; very boyish, which I think is a a good aspect for the character!
...Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe he is touring again as I saw him in NY, and then in Atlanta the following week when he rejoined the touring cast of Phantom!
Later!
