re: Phantom on the oscars

she riffed it. I promised myself I would kill someone if she riffed the song. any volunteers?

But really, even if you didn't like the movie, come on, ALW is a classic, amazing music has come out of this man. Im still bitter.

She was terrible on that song, and even worse with Josh Groban. Did we really need to hear her sing every song !!!??? What was up with that?

re: Phantom on the oscars

I think they should've gotten someone with a voice to sing it. Minnie would've been ideal. I love the fact that ALW came out to accompany it. He was really into it on the piano and was putting a lot of care into it.

re: Phantom on the oscars

Minnie Driver CANNOT sing, though. She sounded barely decent on a recorded version, she could not do it live.

I thought Beyonce was WRETCHED. Blah. And when the phantom walked out, I lost it - it was SO tacky.

yeah, I was upset when the Phantom came out. At first I thought it *might* be Gerard Butler..but then I was like "okay, no"

re: Phantom on the oscars

i think Beyonce did a good job...but at the same time,i was like...dont they have more than one female singer in the whole country? she should have sung only one of the 3 songs she sang. Many other Bway singers could have done a better job with the "phantom" song. Well...i'm sick of Beyonce....has anyone seen when the gay guys from that show on Bravo gave her an award??? It seemed like she was afraid of gay people.I think all gay people should never buy her records for that.It was offensive.Well...on the other hand ,she did kiss Andrew Lloyd Webber.....oh....im sorry...he is married to a woman....im sure it's a true marriage. LOL

I didn't like the Phantom. The way he moved reminded me too much of the movie "Scream."

::shrugs:: they could have gotten Patrick Wilson to do it too. He could do well with that song. Emmy would have been nice too.

re: Phantom on the oscars

Sally, according to ALW, the reason Beyonce sang the song was because of RATINGS. The producers were looking to up their viewing audience, and figured Beyonce would bring in more younger viewers than Minnie Driver might have. In an interview ALW did in London a couple of weeks ago, he said he had asked if Minnie could sing the song, but was told he had no say in the matter.

re: Phantom on the oscars

that's retarded, it's his work he should have a say in it.
Who was the Phantom when he came out? Does anyone know. I figured it wasn't Gerard but wasn't sure. I thought it was kind of stupid but oh well.

Yeah.. I don't realy remember the song from the movie.. thats weird because I have seen the movie about 5 times.. weird! I think they should have playing a song that people knew. But Andrew played the piano pretty good

re: Phantom on the oscars

The song is sung over the closing credits by Minnie Driver, but an instrumental version of it can be heard twice. In the Masquerade scene, after the Phantom sings the "Notes," and has sung "if pride will let her return to me her teacher, her teacher..." He looks at Christine, she looks at him, and you hear the opening bars of the song. The second time is at the end, in the final black and white scene.
