Posted: 2/28/05 at 1:24pmIt was just plain weird. The whole Beyonce thing was weird. It's not even a good song. We all started laughing when the Phantom came out.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 1:46pmYeah she would have. The only reason Minnie got to sing it for the cd was because she didn't sing in the movie.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 2:03pmi think Beyonce did a good job...but at the same time,i was like...dont they have more than one female singer in the whole country? she should have sung only one of the 3 songs she sang. Many other Bway singers could have done a better job with the "phantom" song. Well...i'm sick of Beyonce....has anyone seen when the gay guys from that show on Bravo gave her an award??? It seemed like she was afraid of gay people.I think all gay people should never buy her records for that.It was offensive.Well...on the other hand ,she did kiss Andrew Lloyd Webber.....oh....im sorry...he is married to a woman....im sure it's a true marriage. LOL

Posted: 2/28/05 at 2:07pmMy mother said "Good lord look at her eyes, how does she keep them open?" I liked her eye make-up,it was over the top,but still.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 2:07pmEven tho she annoys me.Beyonce looked great in that diamond dress...and she looked great in the green dress too.The black dress was horrible and too plain tho.She must have thought black is the only choice to sing a Bway song. The best dressed of the night was Salma Hayek...as usual and Kathy Griffin looked great too.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 2:36pmI don't think she was awful I think the whole thing was disappointing. If she is going to sing a song that is supposed to convey a young heart then she should have been dressed as Christine. Young and Virginal. Not as Carlotta. Big and over the top. The whole thing was very confusing. Cinematically and Musically. The duet with Josh Groban was pathetic. It is his song and he should have done it by hinmself

I still think that Beyonce did a beautiful rendition of the song. She kept her runs to a minimum.
I thought it was HYSTERICAL when the Phantom came out and helped her down the stairs. And then he ran offstage and was never seen again.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 2:45pmi made a bet with my mom when they were introducing "accidentally in love" (which imho should have won) that they were gonna introduce beyonce for that too. Lost thebet but laughed my ass off

Posted: 2/28/05 at 3:08pmI liked the figure of the monkey playing the piano.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 3:17pmDuring her first number, she made some strange movement with her body and then, immediately, with her eyes. I said "What was that?" My partner said, "She farted."

Posted: 2/28/05 at 3:26pmI said the same thing. Her eye make up was a little much. And I don't think she did a great job. Was she the only female singer free to sing that night?
#18re: Phantom on the oscars
Posted: 2/28/05 at 3:30pmi think beyonce was ok, i mean she wasnt bad, she just wasnt great....but i thought Emmy should have sung it instead of introducing her...oh well. but emmy looked so pretty! and the monkey on the piano...so cute....but the phantom...so wierd. would have been much better if it was Gerard Butler..haha.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 3:49pmThe problem is that Emmy doesn't have half the voice that Beyonce has.

Beyonce did a good job singing the first song from Choristes or something like that, but she should not have sang the Phantom song. Emmy Rossum should have sung it. She sounded terrible and then having her sing Believe was just rediculous. I half expected her to be singing with the Counting Crows.
Does anyone know who the Phantom was that came out?

Ummmm..... I hate to mention this again but Emmy had NO business singing that song and I'm glad she didn't. However, I think that a if a song gets nominated it has something to do with the way it was performed and therefore the original singer should do it at the Oscars.
Plus if Emmy were to sing a number it should have been the one from Les Choristes, it is after all an art song, much like an aria.(DUH!)
Did anyone else think that when Jorge won and sang his song acapella as his acceptance that that was the best performance of the night? I know I did and lot of papers seemed to think so as well.
Side note- Isn't it funny that Beyonce sang 3 different styles of songs and they all sounded the same?

Posted: 2/28/05 at 4:21pmI wish Jorge had performed his own song. Antonio's take on it was just OK. Another running joke in the office today is that Antonio taught JLo how to sing properly in Spanish because that tone-deaf attempt of hers with hubbie Marc Anthony during the Grammy telecast was awful. Marc is a dynamite singer in both languages, but his wife poor thing can't carry a tune in either. Sorry, I digressed.

Posted: 2/28/05 at 4:50pmI just don't understand why they had her sing with Josh Groban. He sang the song solo on the soundtrack and he did an excellent job. Why would they turn it into a duet just for the oscars?
#24re: Phantom on the oscars
Posted: 2/28/05 at 5:08pmI think it's funny how the one song that Beyonce didn't sing was the one that won. :)
