Obviously there were some things that didn't make sense. For example the hayloft was a diner counter haha. But the maywine/word of your body scene played out really well and so did the Hanschen masturbation/Desdemona's photo was a 1950s dirty magazine. It was as if the director was trying to make it "the meeting place" for this small German community.
I totally get what everyone is saying why a 50s diner? seems like a crack pot idea. However, during the preshow when the actors were onstage either doing homework, passing notes to each other, sitting at the counter, and reading german novels you started to get the feel of the show. I think this would have been fine set in the 50s just not a diner. Sexual oppression was big in the 50s too right?
I just noticed that not everyone has seen in it in this thread and I wanted to give an actual review of how I felt about the show. Like I said everyone was amazing except for Wendla and Moritz.

Posted: 7/16/12 at 12:20pmThere was already a version taking place in the fifties in a movie called "Our Time" from 1974 starring Parker Stevenson and Pamela Sue Martin before they became TV stars.

I like that the shills aren’t acknowledging nor denying that they’re shills and beginning to “form” “opinions” in “teen message board slang.” That’s chutzpah.

Posted: 7/19/12 at 4:11pmExcuse you, I am not a shill. I don't know why I am allowed to state my opinion? At least I went to the show and came up with a real review. I thought this board was to comment on this company's performance. If anything I was negative about how their Wendla and Moritz performances were the worst performances I have seen in Philadelphia.

It's simply odd (thus the shill calling) that you saw this in Philly and just "happen" to find a BROADWAY discussion board the day after you saw it. It is simply hard to believe the coincidence of it.
(I'm not attacking, I'm just further explaining. Oh, but it wouldn't hurt to proofread before you hit post. "I don't know why I am allowed to state my opinion" -- is certainly not what you meant to say, is it?)

I follow Broadwayworld.com boards constantly and have never posted before. Yes I live in Philadelphia but I am fortunate enough to make it up to NYC and do Student Rush for a lot of Broadway Shows.
Spring Awakening is one of my fav shows so when I saw this was posted about the production I JUST saw, I thought why not respond. I can't speak for anyone else (yea doesn't Philly Theatre Guy, Patti Lover and AMS seem ridiculous) but I just want to state how I felt and contribute to the thread being I actually watched their performance.
Haha and thank you for the typo error! Yes that sentence should have said "I don't know why I am not allowed to state my opinion"
