re: Photo Coverage: John Lloyd Young's Birthday Party

am a big fan of John, and have been since the show opened, more than many people can say, and I can kind of agree that he is everywhere, but I would never EVER call him fake. The guy ran himself into the ground before the Tony's by doing every single thing humanly possible and it wasn't because he is some smug attention-craving jerk but because he is a genuinely nice guy who is dedicated to his show and fans

But, with all due respect, how do you know that? I'm more posiing a general qustion here and this is by no means an attack. I often hear people on here talk about how they "know" someone is/isn't "like that." Clearly, there are people here who actually socialize/interact/work with with these people so that's how they "know" someone's personality. But if you're not really a part of their day to day life and don't interact with them when they're not promoting their show or performing...how can you possibly "know" someone?

As for all the events and appearances he did before the Tony's.....that's somewhat self-serving since he gets the oppostunity to campaign for himself by pressing the flesh and kissing babies an all that. Not to say he's not talented or nice or anything...I just don't get an ounce of charisma from him when he talks.

WHO CARES WTF JLY DOES?! Seriously, this is not on par with anything real at all. If this is as big as it's going to get for him (which is quite likely), why begrudge the man? Why? I really want to know. There are so many people who are in every single photo on BWW, on Broadway.com, etc... that's what you DO when you are climbing the celebrity ladder. At least he has talent and deserves what little he's getting. Get over it and talk about something that actually is known around the globe, like why the F*ck no one told Britney to take the gum out of her mouth before talking to poor Matt Lauer. At least more than 15 people would know what/who you were talking about.

re: Photo Coverage: John Lloyd Young's Birthday Party

Thanks Al for your comments which although we've often not seen eye to eye, I agree with.

LotsWife - I'm not going to even respond to your comments. You can reread my previous post about the subject matter. But "no names" at his party? Either you're not in the industry or don't want to be (but regardless) making blanket comments which are insulting to the ones in the photos.

All the theater sites support and "document" various events and subject matter. Some you might like, some you might now. Different Strokes for different folks. But no one should attempt to speak for everyone by saying NO one cares. Clearly even the naysayers do or they wouldn't be so quick to post in this thread (or others).

When you truly don't care about something - you don't spend energy or time arguing for or against.

There are thousands of subjects, topics, threads, etc that I couldn't care less about. I don't click on them nor would I think of posting my opinion how much I don't care about it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I just got in from a walk in the park - I encourage you to get out and enjoy the sunshine :)

Shouldn't we be honored that JLY, a Tony Award winner I might add, wanted to have his birthday party photos posted on BWW? Obviously, he likes BWW. You people really need to chill.

PS How about that cake?

"I found the Nightline (or whatever national evening news program) feature where he was "Person of the Week" was ridiculous. Person of the week? C'mon. More like Person of the Really Slow News Week."

Didn't he work for ABC News as a transcriptionist?

I figured that's the reason he got ABC "Person of the Week." Here was a struggling actor and low-level former employee who went on to win the most prestigious award in his field. Obviously, some people at ABC remembered that he used to work there and thought it was an interesting success story.

Besides, most of the PotW are not famous.

I love you Al! This is one of the more surreal threads I've ever read on Bww and that's really saying something. What's wrong, it wasn't coverage of yet another Idinawethinosa event? Aww shucks, now I'm mad too. Imagine, JLY smiling after struggling for years to get out of the regional chorus of shows no one ever heard of to win a Tony for his first role on Broadway, Geez, the guy must be on some medication to have that smile on all the time. You people are really something. Just when I think I can't be shocked, nuff' said.

MOXIEINTHECITY... I guess I have no way of literally knowing minus the fact he takes incredible amounts of his own personal time to talk to and email his fans, people that, in the grand scheme of things, don't matter all that much. They don't vote for the Tony's and if he chose to ignore them would still go to see the show. If you've ever met him you could easily tell that he is not like that. He does not avoid fans like other performers and actually helped me, personally, out one day. He just is a REALLY nice guy, I'm sure Craig could vouch for that. I've met him multiple times, both in and out of the stage door setting, and he is the same each time. There is nothing fake about him IMO...

"I am sick of eveyone picking on him, what in the world has he done wrong? just leave him alone."
What has he done wrong? He became successful, and unfortunately, for reasons I don't know, people just love to bring ya down when you're climbing to the top/at the top.
JLY is extremely successful. Why do I think this? Because we are arguing about him now. You know you've reached the top, when you have people that love you, and people that hate you.
Arghh! Grammar pet peeve #1: your vs you're. "Your" is a possessive pronoun. "You're" is the contraction of "you are." <<

John is 5'7

OMG why should anyone care how tall he is or how tall his girl friend is?

Yes Alison is a casting director

re: Photo Coverage: John Lloyd Young's Birthday Party

John will get more work, most likely plays after this I would guess. Having the girlfriend as a casting director is kind of a cool thing but I'm guessing the Tony award on his resume just MIGHT, I really am no expert on this, pull a little more weight!

jerseyboyslover... don't worry about all them, short people always get picked on, I would know! Besides, don't let them get to you at all. We both know how talented he is :)

"I'm saying where were his other 3 co-stars? Don't you think they would have been invited? Or shouldn't they have been invited?"

Oh Ok yeah I was think the same thing.

Gosh, what a dollface. I never met him, but I can tell you that I loved, loved, loved him in Jersey Boys. Taking my Mom on the 19th, and can't wait to see him work his magic again. The pics were fun to look at...thank you for posting the link. :) I agree, his smile is fabulous.

"I think its wrong that hes getting so much attention. I think he's fake. His tony speach was terrible. He's an attention whore...and even needs press at his birthday party. Get rid of this guy..please."

An actor that is an attention whore???? I can't even imagine that!

re: Photo Coverage: John Lloyd Young's Birthday Party

After watching the "behind the scenes: jersey Boys" on Broadway.com, he just comes off all wrong. After his Tony speach and now this, I just find him to be very cold and distant and fake. But that's just my opinion. Maybe it was just a bad edit in the video and an "off night" at the Tonys?
#73

re: Photo Coverage: John Lloyd Young's Birthday Party

He is not cold at all.

The guy is very nice, I dont know that he is in person but I know that he is on e-mail. I think he was just in a bad mood in the video with christian, everyone has there days.

re: Photo Coverage: John Lloyd Young's Birthday Party

His Tony speech did annoy multiple people, not just fans. I do know that but he was happy with it and it is what he wanted to say. Granted he didn't thank everyone in the show or affiliated with the show but apparently he felt that moment deserved the speech he gave (he did write it ahead of time and rehearsed it). He thanked all the people you would normally think he would on his site the next day though.

As for the video on bway.com... the guy looked like he just ran into the theater before the matinee and was VERY overwhelmed and tired at the moment. He was still nice enough to do it though. I would say that shows the opposite of him being "fake" or "cold". It shows that he is willing to go on camera to talk to his fans even though he is not at his best. I've met him multiple times, emailed him multiple times, and even spoken on the phone to him and he is not fake or cold... he really is a complete sweetheart and very down to earth. I think he hasn't felt well for the past week or so which happens to everyone.
