I think he is referring to the scenes where they have fire covering their private areas and then it looks like they are nude
You can't tell they are wearing costumes larger than those little coverings! it looks seamless!!

I have to say, I don't think the "fire" illusions are great at all. First of all, they look nothing like fire, and second of all, you can see everyone's straps.

If you're going to try to do something like that, scrap it if it doesn't look right.

Yeah, I can obviously see the bra/panty straps, so I don't think they look "naked" I think it is fine though, it looks like every other nude colored under outfit (Spamalot, Gypsy...) but I just don't think it is a "nude illusion" because they definitely don't look nude to me.

Remember it's Burlesque, not Broadway Bares, the costumes are very period and the straps are appropriate, and the form of the women's bodies is lovely.

FYI -- back in the days of Minsky's (and burlesque), the ladies were never nude, they had nude colored body stockings, like what you see in this new musical MINSKY'S. Those costumes are authentic to the real things used back-in-the-day. Even the original Gypsy Rose Lee wore nude colored body stockings. It wasn't until the 50's did you actually see burlesque women in their actual flesh.
