Well, I definitely think the logo looks very elementary and dull. But it's bright and colorful and will definitely catch the eye. You have to admit...it catches y'alls eyes, too?
While I've never been too thrilled about this revival, I am happy that people like Max and Laura can begin their Broadway career with a show that is so known and loved by everyone. This show will definitely get their names out there and give so many other young actors in NY a chance to work. And even though this show is horrible in our eyes, it'll start a whole new generation of young theatre-goers. It sucks that Grease has to be the show to bring in a younger audience, but it might do what Wicked and RENT did for theatre. It's bittersweet.
It looks so tacky! Bad Photoshopping job to me.

I am used to the sign as I have watched every minute of the show. It seems fine to me. Though I am not crazy about The One That You Want sign. Family will be going to the first preview because I love Grease, Max was very entertaining, and the rest of the cast seemed very talented from just the few seconds we saw and it's something different for us to do. As for getting a sanitized version, better that than what I heard the play was like, though a little grittier would also be very entertaining and welcomed.
I am not fond of the bubble type font, I saw it awhile ago and I still don't like it. The rest if fine though.
I fully admit that I was addicted to Grease You're the One that I Want while it was airing, so I'm kinda used to the logo.
That being said, however, I never liked it on the show either - it felt like a cheap photoshop reproduction of the original logo. It feels no less cheap on the marquee, in fact that sort of makes it worse. But despite the fact that it's totally lacking in any sort of artistic merit, it's going to definitely serve it's purpose of getting people's attention quickly and easily and getting it in the theatre, so it's not totally lacking...
on the 94 production poster:
I wonder what the hell does "the official broadway production" mean?
I like this one better...
Grease is (imo) one of the most boring musicals ever written (probably second only to The Pajama Game)
I think the "Rama lama lama ..." part is kind of funny. But overall, grotesque.
I miss this "kind" of grease:
I would much prefer a gritty, real production of Grease. I know it wouldn't be as big of a success, but I'd rather see a short running version of a great show than a long running version of an okay show.
I agree with BroadwayEnthusiast2,I like the old logo the best.

vfd88 - the thing is, Grease was never meant to be real or, as you call it, gritty.
Grease was always done as a parody of the 50s.

It's not as though another show wouldn't have been put into this Broadway house -- employing actors just the same -- if GREASE were not being put there.
I'm surrprised people here are giving the show two years. The Books Atkinson has never housed a profitable musical, correct?
Except it's GREASE, starring two people picked by a reality TV show. Why do you think it wouldn't run?

I just wonder what Marshall will do with this. It doesn't seem like any new groundbreaking staging is going to be used, so it just seems sorta pointless, except for the fact that maybe someone needs to pay off their new Mercedes. But we'll see, she got rave reviews for her past revivals.
Her career will be over for a good five years after this, not just because it'll be bland, but because the two stars, I feel, unfortunately will not be competant. Can these people that were pulled off the street really do eight shows a week, even after a few weeks as David Ian's Nazi Camp or Grease Accademy or whatever it was called?

How can you be "gorundbreaking" with GREASE? I don't think any critics are going to walk in expecting groundbraking, daring, brilliant staging. It's GREASE for god's sake. Did she do anything groundbreaking with The Pajama Game? She got raves for that, as you mention.
And, jv, as much as you don't think you are going to like Grease, why do you think Marshall's career will be over for five years after this? What if her work gets raves? It could even make her more popualar and give her a higher profile. We won't know until it opens.
I just think that if the stars are incompetant, even with raves, she'll be partly responsible for casting the leads and unforunately she'll be sort of shunned. Jim Jacobs' carreer has been over for years and David Ian will just sunbathe with more lotion made with Tang, so she'll get burnt I think.

You can be groundbreaking with anything. Doesn't mean it's good. I'm just saying that it seems to me that they could have picked ANYONE to direct the piece because it's inevitably going to be the same show that we've all seen before. It will be colorful with competent performers. I just wonder if she's going to bring anything new to the piece. I'm not talking like "Company" or something, but just a fresh look at an old classic.
Here's a question- Why doesn't she tackle a new musical? I'm getting sick of her doing revivals, even if they are usually wonderful.
"just a fresh look at an old classic."
She did that with The Pajama Game last year, and she could do it again with Grease.
And why would Marshall get burned if the leads suck? She wasn't all responsible for casting them, yes she put them through the first rounds (along with a lot of other people), but America made the final choice, not Marshall.
Alright, fine. That was a ridiculous answer. I just want her to learn her lesson and do an original musical. Please Ms. Marshall, stop doing revivals!
