Photos: Broadway in Bryant Park 8/14

What's up everyone... I packed up the camera and headed to Bryant Park this afternoon for "Broadway in Bryant Park". I've never attended that event, and I have to say, it was pretty cool. Really cool actually. Lots of folks. I was surprised at just how many folks were in attendance.

I missed "Young Frankenstein" and arrived when "Grease" was on their second song... side note... what the hell is up with that show? They were terrible. I admit I don't know much about the show, all I've ever seen is the movie. So maybe that had something to do with it. But dang, I was not feeling it at all. Wasn't it nominated for a Revival Tony?

Anyhow... I caught "Legally Blonde", and one of my personal all-time favorites "Rent".

I could elaborate on what I thought of "Legally Blonde", but lets skip right to the good stuff... Eden Espinosa is a friggin sensation in the role of Maureen! What a fantastic voice this girl has. I've only seen her on Broadway once (when I saw Rent not too long ago), but watching her today reminded me of how much talent she has. I think I heard she played in Wicked as well? Her voice is very similar to Idina M's, but I personally think it's a million times better.

I didnt catch the name of the new girl who is playing Joanne (new because when i saw the show a while back she was not in it) but she was also fantastic. Great great voice.

I have no idea why they replaced Tamyra with the new Mimi, Renee Elise Goldberry. I thought her "Out Tonight" was awful. Worst version I've heard.

i'm looking forward to going back tomorrow for the last event. I've never seen "The Lion King", and "Hairspray" is always fun. Hopefully I'll get a better seat and better photos.

hahaha... defying you're hilarious... i wish! :)

There were actual press folks there who got all the good shots, they were allowed to walk up to the stage, get close... lucky folks.

I behaved and stayed glued to the floor so I wouldnt get in anyones way.

BwayBaby - thanks for giving me her name - Tracie Thoms - FANTASTIC! She was so good. And paired with Idina, wow, they blew the roof (even tho there's no roof) off the joint.

Lynne - Grease wasnt the worst thing I've ever heard, but I wasnt impressed at all... they didnt sound good together... it was weird... and the performances were lacking that spark. I dont know. I wasnt impressed. But everyone has different taste... its all good. :) Updated On: 8/14/08 at 05:29 PM
