Madame X, July 2nd is the closing date for sure. There is no chance of an extention.
When Victoria Clark renewed her contract last time around, she made it clear it would only be under two conditions: 1) That she could go on a six show a week schedule and 2) That she would appear through July 2nd only. She isn't willing to extend past that point, and it's understandable. She has played this role since 2003, as another poster said, and wants to spend more time with her son, no to mention the emotional tole the show takes on her.
The producers said they felt the best thing would be to close the show at this time, with it having gone through four extentions, played for over a year, and still being headline by it's Tony award winning star, and that is what they plan to do.
On top of that, Aaron Lazar said in his blog that Lincoln Center doesn't want an extension either. They want to use the Vivivan Beaumont for other things (the "South Pacific" revival will be playing there whenever that comes along.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
