I try to be open minded about the lack of blonde wig, because I hear Elena is a FANTASTIC Clara. However, I think the choice to have Clara be blonde was an inportant one and added a lot to the story. It allowed Clara to stand out amongst the Italian people. This was easily done by casting a fair, blonde girl as Clara, all three times (Celia, Kelli, and Katie). A bright haired red head would work too, because that would make her stand out. But the combination of Elenas tan skin and dark hair doesnt do well for the overall story. Clara and Margaret are supposed to stand out, and the differences between Clara and the rest of the world are crucial to the story. I'm tired of hearing people's references to the book saying how Clara gradually looks more and more italian, but i think that was both in attitude as well as looks, she was more tan, but i dont BELIEVE she was brunette.
In the pictures, Elena just looks like one of the Italian Chorus members. I appreciat ethe new spin they are trying to put on her physical appearance but i believe the original idea of fair, blonde worked much better. I cant wait to see elena though because i hear fantastic things. i just felt like venting. haha.
