Pippin revival

yes, Gabe is directing it but, Goodspeeds production has nothing to do with this "in the works" broadway revival. The word is Stephen Schwartz is going to oversee Goodspeeds production and then decide whether or not he wants a Broadway revival and how to enhance it.

It's time for a revival on Broadway for Pippin. It's a really fun show.

I was just in a production of it and it would be fantastic to see a new spin on the show!

Isn't Barre directing a national tour? I remember reading something about it receiving a tour with Suzuki technique and viewpoints methods worked into the staging.

Pippin opened in Seattle on May 5. It has three new songs and a new ending. DayDreamer wrote a review at the time.

I saw Pippin at Papermill a few years ago and I think that version would do really well in a revival. I dont remember it that much, but they basically made it very modern. Also the ending works A LOT better, although most productions are using that ending now, which is good

The version playing Seattle isn't going to New York, though. There were a few changes, but it wasn't a pre-Broadway run, just a large regional production.

I definitely would put money on Arden as Pippin. He sounded excellent in the Benefit Concert.

Gabe is directing the tour yes. But again, if it comes to Broadway, it's totally seperate from Goodspeed.

If they arent going to reproduce the original Fosse choreography-then they need to find someone equally as brilliant to create new choreography that is still as incredible as the Fosse choreography was. Unfortunately, I dont think there is anyone in the business right now who has the creativity that Fosse had and that is why we are left with lackluster choreography like Wayne Cilento

It's on Toronto this October! Same time as Wicked is here. It will be a Schwartz themed Toronto this fall.

Oh I love Pippin. And I love Wayne's choreography, it's fierce in Wicked...but he has balls he shouldn't have by revamping Sweet Charity and making Mr. Fosse roll in his grave. For God's sake, if you NEED to change the dancing, at least keep the barre in Hey Big Spender!

And Pajama Game. WTF? I know it is Fosse esque, but "Steam Heat" and everything else was BUTCHERED.

Chicago is his only legacy on Broadaway right now. Pippin has some increadible dancing, and they need Anne Reiking, or my dance teacher who was in the original company to direct/choreograph. If you notice most original Fosse shows ended up majorly being directed by him, because his choreography wasn't just dance scenes, but it was pure movement throughout the whole show. My dance teacher directed Pippin, Chicago, Sweet Charity, and Cabaret as well as choreographed all with the original Fosse choreography because she is one of his protoge's. She has literally the rights to many of his shows as does Anne Reiking and Ben Vereen. To say a Fosse show's elements of dance and blocking are separate ententies is horse****. Wow, sorry about that one. I'm passionate.

And I think Ben Vereen could make a kicking Main Player. He is so always cool.

yeah! completely! I totally never thought of that... Raul esparaza and michael arden would be great..... it would be hard to get used to anyone whose not Ben Vereen though... : )

speaking of... I saw him as the wizard in wicked and I think he did a really good job

Just thought I would correct a misconception. The Seattle production of Pippin contained absolutely no new songs. They simply included two inter-scene mini-songs which were in the original Broadway version but not recorded for the cast album and called Catherine's discovery of Pippin a song for no reason. It was exactly the same as it's supposed to be in the script.

I, for one, think they need to do a total revision of the musical for revival. I want something dark and unique. Not the medieval thing at all. Get rid of all the fancy costumes. Down to more basic elements, focusing more on the drive of the company to get Pippin and on the nature of them knowingly putting on a production rather than just sex and needless spectacle. This might be my favorite musical of all time, and it deserves to be done right.

Also, if they do have a revival and they don't try and get Elaine Stritch to be Berthe I will officially fall over and die.

Ben Vereen has said that the only way he'd do Pippin again is if he directed it, I would love that.
