The audio of the feed is crappy, but so exciting to see these songs again. All jokes aside, Hadley is excellent in this role.

Well, I know nothing of this show, but after watching the video, I am intrigued. The opening tapping they show is impressive alone and Hadley looks so adorable!!

Just one question. I'm a bit confused. Hasn't this show already opened? Not on Broadway, but somewhere else? I've seen pictures of fans with the cast at the stage door.

I am almost embarrassed about how excited I am for this show. As a staunch (S-T-A-U-N-C-H) fan of the Schonberg/Boubil team and their shows, I really could not be more enthralled by this production.

I haven't heard Hadley sing that "I'll Be There" interval since I saw Pirate Queen in October... how have I lived?

Aww, be nice! :P

caitlinette - welcome to the boards. A lot of shows preview in other cities before they open on Broadway so that they can test it first in front of an audience and figure out how to make the show better for the NY critics.

The show played in Chicago for about 6 or 8 weeks and now they are in NY rehearsing the changes.

Speaking of Hadley shirtless... I played the clip of him singing 'I'll Be There' to one of my extremely non-musical-fan apartment roommates because I NEEDED to share it with someone. She immediately said 'wow... that could only be better if he were shirtless.' I giggled like a little school girl.

I'll be a little brutally honest--but this is the last time!

As the resident classical singer (in training) Hadley's voice on "I'll Be There" is great--until his last phrase. The "for YOU!" is a little bit pushed and pinched and everytime I hear him sing it, I wish he'd just open his pretty mouth up and let the phrase just come out.

But that's it. He's a hottie.

The commercial that's been airing here in NY had piqued my interest. And now the castcom and the rehearsal video has sealed it--I'm fully on board the Pirate Queen wagon.

And I wouldn't mind a shirtless Hadley myself, either.

PS: Anyone else having trouble with iTunes and the castcom, or is it just me?

I am as well. It takes like days for it load onto my itunes, and then when I watch, very often it skips and pauses for minutes on end.

LittleFish - As one nowhere near a trained singer, I actually agree on the last note! His resonance usually stuns me but the very last note (granted, we didnt get the whole thing) but I was surprised he didn't have his mouth open further! (nothing i'd notice if actually sitting in the Hilton, but still...

LittleFish, thanks. At least I know I'm not the only one.

You guys are too funny. If the costumes are the same in New York then you will have a lot of chest to look at.

As for Hadley's singing...the audio isn't great for the video. When he is singing live in a huge theatre that little guy FILLS THE HOUSE. It's amazing how big and robust his voice is. The video let me down that they didn't let his last note in "I'll be there" hit vibrato before they cut it off. One of my pet peeves. But he still sounded amazing. The ensemble's wall of sound is better served in a theatre as well. They blew me away in Chicago.

It's great to see people are finally getting excited about this show. Just a few more weeks till Previews!

Eh, I liked the more simpler opening (with the oars) done in Chicago than this more complex one. I think the image of the whole crew together at the beginning was more powerful than with just Hadley. It also just looks cheesy with all the new dancing added to it.

Mmm mmm mmm. Lots of burly and gorgeous Broadway dancing men in one show. Especially the one in the tight black tank. His pecs look like they're gasping for air in that shirt.

Okay I'm done.

I second the notion that Hadley would be more intensifying if he sang "I'll Be There" shirtless. or third, whichever, since threads about gorgeous men move fast.

"Eh, I liked the more simpler opening (with the oars) done in Chicago..."

I think Pirate Queen will be one of those shows where a lot of fans will long for songs and elements from the original out of town version. Personally I love the new oar opening with the step dancing. The show really came alive when the Irish dancing started, and it's good to see NY audiences won't have to wait 40 minutes for this. As far as I could tell this was the only big change from the Chicago version apparent in the rehearsal video.

I find the marketing of Pirate Queen very frustrating. While other new shows like "Legally Blonde" and "Spring Awakening" have made their songs readily available online, Pirate Queen is keeping just about everything under wraps. Claude Michel's music is their greatest asset. We should all be humming this new opening song he's written long before the New York previews start. I think one well produced video clip of Steph singing the new song would do more to build excitement for PQ's New York run than every single one of those silly Castcoms clips played end to end.

am i the only one who is surprised that the bway.com video didnt showcase any of stephanie block's singing? i would think she has some big solo numbers and they didnt give her a chance to sing any of them- just alot of ensemble and the two men.

just curious as to whats up with that.

Another good point - though I contacted Paul from the Stage Notes blog and asked if he had any extra footage from rehearsals that he could post as he did with Les Miz rehearsals and he indicated that he did and was leaning towards posting it sometime soon. So hopefully we'll get to see a little more of everything.

I hope, hope, hope Hadley gets a Tony nom. What are the chances? Who else is really in the running this year?

Also I keep forgetting how young he is. Only 26.

"I hope, hope, hope Hadley gets a Tony nom."

The male lead category is a lot less crowded than the female one, so that seems like a distinct possiblity.

Regardless of what happens to Pirate Queen on Broadway (and I'm sure we all hope it succeeds) I don't think we have to worry a bit about Stephanie and Hadley's future careers.
