Sounds like quality theatre to me!
Typical CLO casting:
Leads from out of town.
Chorus of college kids.
And the same people they ALWAYS use. (I lost a lot of my desire to see "Into the Woods" now that I know Tim Hartman is the Narrator/Mysterious Man.)

The last time I saw Ms Bean (in "It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's Superman!") is was very obvious that she's been eating well. Very well.

"I've heard that Julia Murney will be playing The Baker's Wife in INTO THE WOODS."
According to the Pittsburgh CLO's website, the Baker's Wife will be played by Brynn O'Malley.

What's wrong with Tim Hartman, sondheimboy??
commasplice, thanks for the update. They'd been in talks with Murney because I was told her name along with Foster and Leavel about two months ago. It looks as if it didn't work out.
O'Malley is terrific casting too, though she could read a bit young opposite Foster (she's much more of a natural Cinderella.)

muscle, Shoshana Bean is in fact a soprano.
Are they using the same sets and costumes from the last Joseph tour with Amy Adams and Patrick Cassidy?

It sounds like shoshana isn't belting too much but opting for a a nice mix on the upper notes! I think she shounds phenomenal! Not sure who costumed her in that but she sounds great. I would see the production just for her amahzing vocals.
Shoshana In Joseph
Yikes. At least the act two outfit looks a little better than the act one catastrophe. And the megamix dress looks good too.
I unfortunately caught a performace of the CLO's "Joseph" on Saturday. What a dreadfully underwhelming experience!
Shoshana was decent, but for some reason had alot of trouble with her high notes. Especially the end of "Pharaoh Story." She was even dropping to an octave lower of the written score instead of hitting the high notes through most of the show. What you see on the preview video is NOT what I saw live.
David Osmond as Joseph didn't do anything for me. Half of the time his voice sounded so weak and the other half of the time he deviated from the written score to the point where it was distracting. It was almost like Osmond and Bean were having a competition to see who could riff more. I wanted to yell out "YOU ARE NOT ON AMERICAN IDOL, HERE!!"
The rest of the cast *tried* to be campy with the staging, but the way it was done came off as if they were trying to be serious.
I'm being very critical... I'm a big fan of the piece itself, but this production and the performances just didn't do anything for me. (The audience of mostly parents/kids and elderly people seemed to eat it up, though, so at least it seemed to have pleased the target audience!)
Slight Edit: I did enjoy "Song Of The King" and "Those Canaan Days."

It's a pretty rotten time in Pittsburgh for allergies. Maybe that's affecting the show.
Fred Inkley is one of my favorite Valjeans.

Hmm, I saw Joseph last week and thought it was fantastic. Osmond, Bean, ensemble and the kids all sounded great. They all seemed to be having a great time. I would see it again if time allowed.
"I wanted to yell out "YOU ARE NOT ON AMERICAN IDOL, HERE!!"
HA! Did Sho at any point bust out in wicked? Like..."Strange as it seems....It's Meeee! SOOOOOO IF YOU CARE TO FIND MEEEeeeEEEeeeeEEE...?"

hhahahaha I write out riffs with capital and lower case letters too!!! I'm not understanding this reference to American Idol as a stylistic choice...has it really become a style of singing? And there isn't a mass amount of riffing on AI, for that tune in to BET's Sunday Best which I am for sure is a riffing contest moreso than anything else.

I think the whole season sounds DREADFUL... Legally Blonde, Joseph (can't we let the show rest a little), Swing, COPACOBANA (really???), no wonder regional theatres are dying!!!!
I saw JOSEPH last night and I thought that it was fantastic. David Osmond was great, and Shoshana Bean, while struggling with the higher notes at times, was amazing, as was the rest of the cast.
On another note, Ashley Spencer will be playing Eponine in LES MISERABLES.
Thanks for Ashley Spencer info! Will be great to see her in this role!

My word! That comment presents me with a very disagreeable image! Is that amount of violence required in the role?
