Planning shows for October...help me make a list

I am just back from 4 nights and 6 shows (The Color Purple, Waitress, Hamilton, She Loves Me, Dear Evan Hansen and Daddy Long Legs)! Next trip is in October and I am thinking I could start planning now if there are some MUST see shows that I need to put on my show card! I'm sad I missed some great plays and am not quite sure how I ended up with all musicals this month, but they were all wonderful so I am not complaining! I purchased all of the tickets well in advance and am glad I did because most of them would have impossible to get at the last minute.

Any recommendations for something playing now that will still be around in October? Or recommendations for something that is opening in the fall that should be on my radar? I should have up to 6 slots in October. Thanks for helping me compile a list!

The shows I'm most anticipating are Natasha, Pierre, & the Great Comet of 1812, Falsettos, and Cats.

I'm in the same boat as you (from CA and visiting NY in the fall). My list is tentative, but I'm pretty sure it will go something like this: Natasha, Pierre..., The Front Page, Fiddler, Cats, The Color Purple, Shuffle Along, and School of Rock. And Sleep No More, which I must see again.

Off my own topic, but when you see a lot of shows in a long weekend, how do you find time to eat and drink? I found myself without enough time to eat a relaxing meal at dinner, so I settled for take-out or beef jerky, peanuts and fruit in between a matinee and evening show. I didn't even have time to drink the bottle of wine I bought. I lost three pounds and walked for miles. Seeing shows is a good diet and fitness program?!

When my friends and I do our New York weekends we hardly even eat in the theater district. On Saturdays matinees are out by 5 and evening shows usually aren't until 8. So we'll grab a 5:30 reservation somewhere and still have 2 full hours to eat. You can get to Times Square in 20 minutes or less on the subway from a lot of neighborhoods with much more enticing dinner options (to me) than Times Square. Once you get the subway system down, it's easy to find fun places to get in no time.



When I'm by myself or with my family (who likes to be leisurely) or if I have a Sunday night show (since matinees are usually later) I'll often go over to 9th. I usually combine Yelp and open table to figure out what's around. One of my favorite places I found through Yelp is Bea--just went there last night for an after theater drink and snack. Or sometimes if I'm by myself I like to sit at the bar a junior's. Good diner food and you can usually chat with people sitting at the bar. (Almost always friendly. Sometimes cool. Sometimes weird. :))

I make my lists way ahead of time too. Every time I see about something that is or might be coming, I write it down. I'll be there in the fall too. I have a lot of the ones already mentioned and some that are not yet announced (and maybe won't be)

Front Page, Great Comet, Falsettos, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Heisenburg, Love, Love, Love, Sell/Buy/Date, Plenty, Cats (I've never seen it and figure I should) and now adding Sweet Charity. I'm sure there are more that are yet to be announced.

I also never have a problem eating. It's one of my top three - shows, museums, eating. There are so many really good places and it's pretty easy to get in and out with plenty of time.

You'll have a great time. For me, planning adds to the enjoyment of the trip.

If you opt to see Cats buy the least expensive ticket. It's total boredom. If American Psycho is still playing, it's an exciting evening of entertainment. I am anxious for some of the new shows to start previews so I can start making my own list of shows to see this fall and winter! Good luck making your decisions!!

Love your list. So glad others do the same thing. My friends (non theatre) think I'm crazy that I already have a list for next spring. Let's add:

I'm making plans for a fall trip in November, the week before Thanksgiving. (15th to the 20th). I bought a ticket for The Great Comet a couple days ago, and have my heart set on seeing Falsettos, The Front Page and Holiday Inn. I'll be seeing 7 shows total on the trip, so I have 3 open slots, and am anxiously awaiting what plays and musicals will be announced for the fall during the summer months.

My trip is just around the corner and I have tickets to five shows, with two more slots open. This is what I have so far:

Kingdom Come

Tickets to Kingdom Come were only $25, so if I find something more interesting, I can always skip that one. I'm going to be too early for The Great Comet, so will have to wait until May to see that. Is there anything else you recommend that I see in early October? My first night is open, so I thought I would just walk by TKTS and see what is available. And my last night is open right now. Thanks for any recommendations!
