Was there ever a play made of GIOVANNI'S ROOM? I've read in several short biographies of James Baldwin that there was. I'm sure that for many this was their first gay novel, so does anyone know if it was ever adapted for the stage?
"Braden LuBell is a graduate of Emerson College, having directed many productions for the stage in both Boston and New York. Favorites include Naomi Wallace's One Flea Spare and The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek, as well as his own deconstruction of The Glass Menagerie, and workshopping his stage adaptation of the James Baldwin novel "Giovanni's Room", which he co-wrote. He has directed three shows with BCKSEET (Giovanni's Room, Ancient History and Newsprint) before directing their most recent production, Closer. He is also a trained actor, having performed on Boston's Majestic Stage in Infinity's House, and in the Boston premiere of Sondheim's Saturday Night with Speakeasy Stage Company, as well as regional productions in New York. Braden has taught acting at The Actors' Workshop in Boston and at the Amadeus Conservatory."
