Hey folks
Could you help me out and list any plays you know whos main charachters are in their late teens, early - mid 20s.
Plays along the lines of Dog Sees God, Pyscho Beach Party, Reasons to be Pretty, Jewtopia etc. Anything that could also reach a younger audience (20s to 30s). They need to be quite 'trendy' plays (i know i hate that term as well)
Thanks x
This Is Our Youth's three characters are late teens-early 20's.
What;s "trendy"? Plays written in the last ten years? Narrow your parameters a bit so the thread doesnt become a wide swath.
Sean Martin
Either plays that deal with things that are current today and will go ovr well with a non theatre audience as well as a normal theatre audience.
Or
Something fun along the lines of Jewtopia, Beach Party etc.
Genres would be comedy, drama, thriller
I'd look at just about anything by Ludlam, but that depends on how open minded your audience is.
The Shape of Things by Neil LaBute. The characters are in their early to mid 20's.
Red Light Winter by Adam Rapp. The characters are 30, 30ish and 25.
Both plays have small casts (3-4 people) and both are dramas. They're both pretty dark too actually. Heh.
Just remembered a wonderfully ditzy script that hasnt seen enough play: WONDER OF THE WORLD. I dont know the playwright, sorry, but it's a howl of a show. About 8 in the cast, IIRC.
Thanks so much guys, im looking those up right now
Also any great gay plays as well (not The Normal Heart, Angels in America etc)
A Sense of Place or Virgil is Still the Frogboy by Lanford Wilson.
Neil Labute's fine, funny, and relatively wholesome Reasons to be Pretty
Take a look at Stop Kiss by Diana Son.
I loved Stupid Kids from back in '98. Was really really funny and very moving in the end.
