Please recommend shows to see for my trip this week!

Hello everyone,

I have moved out of NYC 6 months ago and have been pretty much out of the Broadway loop for this time and now I am coming back to visit and have very little idea of what are the best shows to see right now - did not have time to read reviews or pay attention to the word of mouth. Please recommend shows to see for my trip this week!

Would you please be so kind and share your knowledge/experience to recommend shows to see? I have time for probably 5-6 shows and I am on a budget so I want to do rush/lotteries for everything so no need to purchase tickets ahead.

I generally like smart and funny shows but I also enjoy a classis dance heavy musical or an intriguing play. To give an idea, my favorite shows from the past are:

The Book of Mormon

Avenue Q

Twelfth Night

All the Way

Last Five Years

Thank you very much for your help! :)

Based on your list, I'd say Hand to God and Something Rotten. Based on my taste, I'd say Hand to God, On the Twentieth Century, On the Town, Curious Incident and Fun Home. But if you've only been gone 6 months, maybe you've seen most of these either on or off Broadway?

I highly recommend Fun Home, Hand to God, A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Something Rotten!, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

I'll also second Hand to God- certainly seems in line with some of your favorites.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

I will be in the city this week as well! I always find it interesting to see what other members are there at the same time (the ones who don't live there obviously). This is what I have tickets for:

Tuesday - Grounded

Wednesday - Fun Home and The Visit

Thursday - The King & I

From what I know, I would also second Hand to God and Something Rotten. I want to see both but I don't have time for them this trip unfortunately. I've been obsessed with Fun Home for awhile now, so I obviously would recommend that one to anyone. Have fun!! :)

Oh no! Is The Visit that depressing? :P I don't know much about it. I wish I had a happy show on this trip but oh well, I think I made some good choices. :)

"Hand to God and Something Rotten do seem right up your alley.
Also you might enjoy Finding Neverland.

"

Why do you think I would like Finding Neverland? I don't know much about the show... Please recommend shows to see for my trip this week!

Thank you everyone for the tips, sounds like there are a few favourites, I'll do some additional research based on your recommendations!

I personally don't think so, but that's because I think the surrealism and dark humor of the piece keeps the emotion at arm's length with the audience.

If you like dance-heavy, fun shows, definitely try to throw On The 20th Century in there. If you're under 35 you can get $25 tickets in advance via HipTix, otherwise they have a rush as well.

I second Hand to God and Something Rotten based on your favorites, and I think you might enjoy It Shoulda Been You.
