Just in Time - Matt Morrison?

I would absolutely give this show another shot if Bleu was the new lead. (Oddly, this will be his second time as a replacement in a show a

I have a lot of friends over the years who have come here from socialist countries and they wouldn’t necessarily agree with your take.  In fact, they took it way more seriously because they lived it.

As one of my buddies said, Americans have a real cursory understanding of what socialism really is.  It is interpreted by privileged universities here in a privileged country as something very appealing.  An equalizer of sorts. And when you don’t have to liv

Robbie G.K. loves being part of a 'Heated Rivalry' on HBO, but musical theater has given him the 'utmost joy'

John Adams said: "I've been watching and enjoying this show, with a LOT of suspended disbelief. There's no way that these characters, especially the actress, would have their privacy/discretion respected in public restaurants, or hotels where they nearly always seem to be. There's also a strong aura of incredibility re: when homophobia exists in this fairy-tale world, and when it doesn't.

Still (as soap-y as it is), I'm very much along for the ride with scenes like the long-distance phone call in E5, where Hollander asksRozanov to speak to him in Russian, even though he won't understand a word.*

Does anyone else get an as yet unacknowledged "vibe" about Hollander's dad?

* Be forewarned that you'll need to have the subtitles feature constantly enabled for when characters have extended scenes spoken in Russian only. (It's not automatically baked into the show.)

I agree.

The world has a lot of room for fantasy though, and things don't always play out in ways we would consider realistic, I suppose.  That's what makes it fantasy.  I mean, a hot professional hockey player having sex with that barista, and then after having a few relational ups and downs comes out to the world by kissing that barista.  Now that's fantasy.  Dude can have any masculine, hot guy he wants, and he declares for that particular barista.  Not buying it.

It actually kind of makes me think of Heartstopper.  A romantic and charming series.  But IMO also pretty fantastical. At the beginning we meet the outsider, the outcast, the "dweeb" of sorts, and he's making out in secret with one of the hottest guys on campus.  Like that ever happened in any high school.    The outcast and the hottest dude on campus. Uh huh.  And then when he sadly realizes the guy won't be out with him, he immediately is making goo goo eyes at the hot rugby jock in science class.  And they end up in a relationship.  Yeah.  Again, sure.

It does make for great fantasy though.  And very romantic I suppose.  Something the gay community needs more of.  Not just the noncommittal, wham bam thank you man thing set ups.

When it comes to two men coming together from what would be perceived as more conventionally masculine professions, there is still fantasy aligned with that kind of story.  Which in 2025 you would think we be beyond that.   The fact we have a show about two athletes, and we're still oohing and aahing about the "what ifs" involved, is pretty interesting.

We all know, and have always known there are gay athletes.  Just like there are gay military men, gay police officers, etc.  I went to high school in the late 70s early 80s.  I was an athlete.  And I was messing around after practice with one of the other athletes who was on the football team.  And we both had girlfriends.  No one had any idea either of us were gay.

When I became an adult, I was dating military men a lot of the time.  And no one in their circles knew they were gay.  And I rememberer a Marine aviator I went out with who said the same about me. If he had seen me across the room at some social gathering he would have never known.

But therein comes the stereotype.

Funny how we're still cast into this world like the concept must be fantasy because it's two jocks involved, or two LEOs, or two military guys, or whatever.

I remember years ago, before the age of social media and the internet, there was an article in a magazine about some gay man who had claimed to be dating a well known MLB player.  This was like back in the 80s or 90s.  I was thinking the same thing.  How could a MLB player be out on the town with another guy, without women in their presence, and not stir up some curiosity after a while.  It led me to wonder if the guy's story was really true.   Because yes, we know gay athletes are out there as I mentioned before.  But for an athlete who has transitioned into the public arena where people know him now?

Because even now it's difficult for professional athletes to come out.   I know it's more common in certain sports than it is in others, but the NFL, MLB, NHL....I don't think there are many who have. And I agree that it doesn't even seem realistic that they could go about a relationship with another man without just coming out with it.

But then again, though it's a different profession, I had the same curiosity when that 40ish trans model was bragging about being in a relationship with some hot young MAGA NYPD officer who was 20 years junior to this trans model.  How do you, as a hot young NYPD officer, have a relationship with someone who is not only a lot older than you, but is a "well known" trans person and no one notices.  And that story is purportedly true.   So can it happen? I guess.  Strange though because while he can remain more anonymous, the trans person can't.  So people aren't going to make the connections about him too? And this trans person is now concealing his identity now that they've broken up?

Times have changed though I know and gradually more and more people are finding it easier to come out.  Even within some professions that prior to current times it wasn't as easy.

I have found that when it comes to law enforcement, professional or college sports, and the military, men still keep it pretty much under wraps.  It's there, but just not as widespread.  And when anonymity is involved, it certainly makes it easier.

When I was dating a Marine, the general public didn't know who he was.  He looked the part, but no one paid much attention.  Same went for my fellow college athletes.  No one in the general public knew who we were, but in our collegiate circles, yeah, we felt a little more aware of our surrounding and how we were perceived.

But again funny how in 2025 we're still amazed by the concept of two professional athletes having a relationship that goes beyond friendship.

Jon M. Chu will direct a movie-musical adaptation of JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT for Amazon

I saw this on tour in CA, not the pre-Broadway tour that went to Broadway with Michael Damian, but the post-Broadway tour of that show when Sam Harris was on as Joseph. His “Close Every Door To Me” brought the house down. It was an unbelievable performance of that number.

This doesn’t happen too often, does it?

i know critics will comment on all the elements of a show, including performances. As will audience members.

But you don’t hear fellow performers do it all that often. Or do you?

I looked up JD when I saw he was cast as Joe. DY is one of my favorite shows after seeing it with Bebe and Victor years ago. A YouTube video of JD singing from My Fair Lady popped up. What a voice. And darn is he handsome.

I'm not sure what always constitutes a spoiler alert and what doesn't, but I'll put it out there anyway just in case.

I had the opportunity to see the screening in LA as well yesterday afternoon.

I found it to be very good.

Movie renditions of Broadway musicals will never capture the full intimacy or special "once in a moment" theatrical performances of live theater.

So I knew going in that I wasn't going to ge

Audra's Life in the Theatre
 Sep 5 2025, 11:43:25 AM

I have enjoyed all of these episodes, but I agree that this was an especially good one. And you can see how touched she was by every experience. I was anxious to see her commentary on Shuffle Along because I found the musical to be so memorable, leaving the theatre with a huge smile and looking around at the audience members who were equally pleased with what we had just experienced. I remember a couple of critiques it received but I didn’t completely agree. I loved it from start to fin

Popular revival musicals that will fall into obscurity
 Aug 31 2025, 03:10:49 AM

I can't help but believe that those who pursue a career in theater will always have an artistic sensibility that will appreciate the classics and what they brought to theater.

And I would like to hope that those who attend the theater as audience members will always have that same appreciation and embrace the occasional revival of the classics.

I was watching a video of The Will Rogers Follies on YouTube last night.  The entire show with the OBC and filmed for Jap

What would you love to see adapted as a musical?
 Aug 22 2025, 12:35:15 AM

This movie goes back to ‘87 and is a period piece, but I think Maurice from the EM Forster novel of the same name would be nice to see. We’re living in a different world now where acceptance is much more attainable than it was when the novel came out, and even more accepted than when the movie came out. But I think the story is great. And the ending where Maurice and Scudder come together in the end could give a story of two men having a fairy tale ending to what had been a challe

Round and round it goes, where it stops, nobody knows.

How far is this casting issue going to be pared down and still make sense?

I remember the King and I getting accolades for its predominantly casting of Asians.  Which it should.

But if we're going to split hairs, shouldn't the cast have been actors and actresses of Thai descent?  Not predominantly Filipino actors.

The Philippines and Thailand are two completely different nations. With d

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES with Kristin Chenowith & F. Murray Abraham to open at St. James in November
 Aug 7 2025, 10:48:23 AM

Someone posits that she ends up spending her golden years shuffling around her mansion alone. She actually sounds like the kind of woman who will probably end up with a 20 year old bf on her arm based on the things being said about her on the thread here, and the way the world is turning nowadays. And this I say knowing zero about her.

Such a hard decision and difficult to name one. I’ve seen maybe 120 shows but the standouts: On the Town, Crazy For You, She Loves Me, Rent, On the Twentieth Century, Jelly’s Last Jam, Dear Evan Hansen, Shuffle Along, A Chorus Line, Phantom of the Opera, Next to Normal

Of those I guess I’d have to say Crazy For You if forced to choose.

TLC Musical, New Adaptations of DAMN YANKEES and PAL JOEY Will Play Arena Stage

To this day, still one of my favorite theater experiences. The revival with Bebe, Victor and Co. An old-fashioned musical indeed but still a great show. The overture leading up to the opening number, “Six Months…” just great. Bought my parents tix for the tour out here in CA and saw them at a family event the next day. Both loved it. My dad didn’t frequent the theater all that much but he had certain show songs and shows he liked, especially WSS and Man of La Mancha.

Wishful Thinking - HUNCHBACK?
 Jul 27 2025, 01:18:47 AM

I know the production in La Jolla took some heat for its narration style, but I really enjoyed it.
I thought Michael Arden was outstanding as Quasimodo and, of course, Patrick Page was beyond incredible as the villain. I liked Ciara, as well, who brought Esmeralda’s humanity to life in a touching manner.
The first time I saw the movie with my ex, we just looked at each other and agreed that the majestic nature of the music had Broadway written all over it.

I think it’s homophobic, offensive to British culture, vulgar and low class.

I actually saw Buble and Erivo on opening night, I think it was last year, and it was pretty packed too.

Suffice it to say, he's not my favorite when it comes to vocals.  Not bad,

Agreed.
