I had high hopes for the play by Mark Haddon, author of the wonderfully moving 'Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time'. Sadly his debut play is a bit of a damp squib. The cast works hard, but there is a whiff of melodrama and over-emphatic "acting", suggesting everyone knows the show's a bit of a donkey. Very dull set design and functional lighting, not to mention more smoke and haze than the average student production of 'Macbeth'! In the end, the play has nothing really relevant to say except sometimes you can feel like murdering needy people. A noble disappointment, but a disappointment, nonetheless.
I liked the lighting and smoke but not the play. It was just too annoying, and bleak. Maybe a good representation of bi-polar but my goodness it was depressing.
