Did you all see who's playing her ex-husband in "The Visit" in Washington? Talk about going from the fire into the flames!
I ham what I ham!

Posted: 12/21/07 at 11:06amAre you referring to the Anton Schill character? Unless they've changed it for the musical, Anton was the man who seduced Claire way back when and drove her out of town. She became a prostitute and found the right customers, so her future was lined with gold. She subsequently married several times, as I recollect.

Are you calling the actor a ham?
Have you seen the show?
Why is he hammy?
Or is this just some rant against an actor YOU don't like, Gladys?

Yeah, Ed, you're right.
I'm so ancient, I actually saw the production as a teen with The Lunts! I guess clouds got in my way, cause I mean Alfred WAS her actual hubby and all.
Incidentally, I remember him being far more interesting at that stage in their careers than she was. She seemed rather stiff and actress-y. He was honest, unfussy, and quite generous. Needless to say, it worked like gangbusters, even for a kid my age.
Why I'm concerned for Chita is that the two guys she's been saddled with pretty much act all by themselves, and this piece is a duet.
I also saw the Harold Prince production with Rachel Roberts and Chita's first leading man. She was glorious. He was shameless, chewing scenery and acting up a storm, not even approaching what could be taken for a moment of truth. He got away with it that time, but was outed when mysteriously cast in the musical version with Chita.
You'll notice how I'm not naming names here?

"You'll notice how I'm not naming names here?"
Sort of a hollow gesture, though, considering how simple it is to find the name of this first co-star.

Yes.
So what IS the point of this thread?
Just to rag on someone you aren't going to mention?

I guess the point of this thread is that I'm concerned about my wonderful Chita, who has been trying so hard to get this show on, deserves to be surrounded by the cream de la cream in this late life showcase.
I was just being pissy about not naming names I figured everybody would know I'm talking about replacing John McMartin with George Hurn.

Posted: 12/21/07 at 11:57amGeorge Hurn? Not sure I know who he is. I do know of a George Hearn though!!

Darlings, If I could spell, I wouldn't be an ex-chorine, I'd be teaching English in some community college like Mommy dreamed.
Besides, who says you have to be able to spell to dump on somebody?
Could we all just lighten up on the PC stuff?

It's not about being PC. It's about starting a vauge thread because you have a personal thing against one actor.

Well, since we're on the subject of spelling, it's "v-a-g-u-e."
But yeah, I wouldn't call George Hearn a ham. I would call him "deliciously over the top." As Sweeney, anyway.

Posted: 12/21/07 at 3:12pmDid it ever occur to you that Chita, just might have something to say about the casting? I have a feeling that if she didn't like the choice, they would be looking for someone else.
