I know this is really too early to guess, condsidering that only one show for this season has opened, but guessing on what you have seen and heard about all of the shows which of the shows do you think are likely to get a nod?

Its way to early, but I'll play along, based on hype lol.
Best revival:
La Cage... (is there any other ones? I can't even think of one!)
The Wiz (if it ever gets off the ground)
Best Musical:
Spamalot
Little Women
Brooklyn (my pick to win from what I've heard)
And, based on the casting I've heard announced so far, Gary Beach is automatic to win best actor, and Eden or Susan will win Best Actress. I really do think this is a rather slow season on Broadway

I think some musicals will be nominated along with some plays. Also, some actors and actresses will get a nod. Maybe even a director. I'll know more when more than one show opens.

Hahaha I was actually thinking about posting this too
hmmmmm
Best Musical: Spamalot; Brooklyn; All Shook Up; Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Best Score: Spamalot; Brooklyn; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; Little Women
Best Musical Revival: Pacific Overtures; The Wiz; Sweet Charity; La Cage Aux Folles
Best Actress/Actor: Sutton Foster; Nathan Lane; Christina Applegate; Tim Curry / Hank Azaria; John Lithgow; Eden Espinosa
Best Supporting (Musical): Roger Bart; whoever plays Nicki in Sweet Charity; Nobert Leo Butz; Jarrod Emmick
Choreography: I think Sweet Charity will win again...I know Wayne isnt the best but he deserves one. Plus I think he might surprise all of us and choreograph this one VERY well

Nothing has opened.
I can't believe you are predicting shows this early.

Hahah yeah i know. Its more like wishful thinking. Shows we want to see get nominated and such

Just a question for Derek, what is Nathan Lane in this coming season?
Broadway Star Joined: 8/10/04
I think he'll be nominated for Best Actor in The Frogs, I dont think he'll win though. I think Roger Bart has a better chance of winning Best Featured Actor for that show. He came in and saved it! Nathan also might be nominated for Best Book of a Musical, even though it's a revival

I completely forgot that The Frogs is on the new season. He'll get a nom because its Nathan lol
EDIT: Answered my own question

fun thread....
spamalot for new musical
la cage is almost sure-fire for revival
i have HIGH hopes for Pacific Overtures as well...
i could see both kathleen & bill winning for virginia woolf as well...
for some reason, i think Little Women will bomb....dunno why...maybe i'm just a cynic...

Roger Bart was in the show for opening night. Chris Kattan started the previews but was replaced after about a week.

Yeah I dont think it will be well recieved, specially with hits like Wicked and Avenue Q still around. I think it will get nominated and recognized more for its music and actress more than anything
Broadway Star Joined: 8/10/04
Yeah I know Chris Kattan was the original, but its like what happened in Company. Dean Jones was the original Bobby and then stepped out and Larry Kert got nominated (his replacement, Im not sure if he won or not). Also Roger came in before opening and opening-on is what really counts I think :)...good point though
Also...as much as Dracula is being killed right now lol, I think it will get nominated for best design (lighting, costume, set). Im really surprised Dance Of The Vampires didnt. Their sets and stuff were great!

Best Musical: Brooklyn, Spamalot, Little Women, either All Shook Up or Dracula (don't kill me, there is just nothing else out there)

Best Actor: Tom Hewitt,Cleavant Derreks, Tim Curry, Nathan Lane
Best Actress: Sutton Foster, Eden Espinosa , Cristina Applegate, Ramona Keller
Best Feat. Actor/Actress: Don Stephenson, Kelli O'Hara, Roger Bart...
Best Score: Brooklyn, Little Women, Spamalot, Dracula (what else has original music?)
Lighting, Costumes, Set: Dracula

The Wiz was a terrible movie. However the original show takes place in the real "magical/beautiful" land of Oz. It also has much better arrangements and more songs and better talent. Thats just me

So The Wiz has a better score, because the only song I liked in the show was "Ease on Down" and I hated the Oz song, it was just a stupid take on the horses changing colors.
Wouldn't that be weird two musicals both relating to Oz, Wicked and The Wiz.

sorry dude--larry kert did not win, hal linden did for the rothschilds

Wait, I think you got The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz mixed up. The line "Horse of a different color" and the song The Merry Old Land of Oz is from the Wizard of Oz....did I miss something?
I also love the song "Home" from The Wiz...not when Diana Ross sings it, when Stephanie Mills sings it

No, the song in the Wiz where everyone is walking stupidly around in green singing "I wouldn't be caught dead in red" and then the wizard is like "The new color is red" and then they are all in red chanting a different stupid phrase. That whole scene is their version of "The Merry Old Land of Oz", but instead of horses changing colors it is all of the people.

Ooooo yeah...well that whole number isnt even in the stage show. The stage show is much much better, believe me. The killed that musical with that movie...and with that cast. I was hoping Anika Noni Rose was going to play Dorothy, i think she turned it down though...Y WOULD SHE DO THAT LOL. I thought ever little girl wanted to be Dorothy

Maybe she wants to play parts that arent teens. She is smart and doesnt want to be typecasted.
Broadway Star Joined: 8/10/04
Ooo good point. Maybe. How old is she anyway?
I think DRACULA has a chance to be nominated for all the design awards...
Can FROGS be nominated??? If so it would probably be a revival, cuz' they already did it at NYU or whatever...
but it's really too early to guess at this point...
